Job summary

St. John’s Community Services seeks a Direct Support Professional to assist individuals with disabilities in Leesburg, VA, supporting daily routines, transportation, personal care and skill development to promote inclusion and independence.

Responsibilities include supervising participants, documenting progress, coordinating with teams, and following program procedures. Must meet background checks; valid VA driver’s license preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required for DC and preferred but not required for VA.
• One or more years of related experience working with persons with disabilities.
• Must meet SJCS and funding jurisdiction background/records check requirements.
• Valid health certificate to meet funding jurisdiction requirements.
• Valid state-issued driver’s license with good driving record preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide supervision and training to persons served across residential, day, respite, community, and employment services.
• Administer medications per procedures after state certifications.
• Assist with transportation and planning daily activities to promote inclusion and social capital.
• Document support provided, progress, health matters, achievements, and challenges daily.
• Attend mandated events, workshops, trainings, investigations and meetings.
• Ensure responsible usage of personal and agency resources (vehicles, property, finances).

What We Are Looking For

We seek a Direct Support Professional (DSP) who provides support to persons with disabilities in developing and/or maintaining skills to enhance the quality of their lives in the community. The DSP observes and responds to the physical, social, behavioral, career and personal needs of persons served, advocates for their needs, and serves as a link to community inclusion. They assist with daily routines, household tasks, employment‑related tasks, and personal care.

Essential Responsibilities

• Provide a suitable level of supervision and training to persons served through residential, day, respite, community, and employment services to facilitate their social wellbeing, health, and safety in the least restrictive environment.
• Administer medication to persons served per medication administration procedures upon successful completion of state‑required certifications.
• Assist persons served to use public transportation or arrange transport to access community resources, and assist with planning and implementation of daily activities that promote social inclusion and build social capital.
• Follow prescribed SJCS procedures to document support provided to persons served, including progress toward skill acquisition, choices, health matters, achievements and challenges daily.
• Attend and participate in all mandated events, workshops, training, investigations and meetings.
• Ensure responsible usage of personal and agency resources, e.g., vehicles, property, finances, etc.

Compensation

Salary: $20.00 per hour.

• Valid state‑issued driver’s license with a current driving record in good standing preferred.

Employee Requirements

• Obtain a valid health certificate to meet SJCS or current funding authority requirements as required.
• Meet SJCS and the funding authority requirement of criminal background and record checks.

Physical and Environmental Conditions

• Work may require lifting heavy objects a minimum of 30 pounds.
• Work environment involves risks or discomforts that require special safety precautions, including safely operating a motor vehicle, lifting, transferring and/or positioning persons served, exposure to aggressive behavior, practices with office equipment, and/or avoidance of trips and falls.
