Job summary

Walmart design technologists are seeking a UX Designer - eCommerce in Sunnyvale, CA to shape next‑gen shopping experiences through research‑driven concepts and high‑fidelity prototypes.

You will translate research, strategy, and interactions into practical interfaces, collaborating with designers, engineers, product managers and content strategists across platforms.

This 6 to 12+ month contract offers DOE compensation and an opportunity to influence a large, customer‑facing ecommerce ecosystem.

Qualifications

  • Relevant degree in HCI, CS, design or cognitive science or equivalent experience.
  • Strong experience with HTML/CSS/JS, Xcode/Swift, Android/Java/Kotlin and PWA.
  • Experience with modern UI standards including accessibility and responsive design.
  • Prototyping strategies, measurements, and tools knowledge.
  • Ability to translate complex concepts for varied audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze data to design and develop complex prototypes meeting business and user needs.
  • Influence next-generation UX concepts, reusable navigation, components, and templates across products.
  • Contribute updated guidelines and patterns across platforms and modalities.
  • Research emerging technologies and identify knowledge sources impacting design.
  • Ensure a consistent, appealing, and dynamic customer experience.
  • Articulate design feasibility within current systems and future paths.

Description

Walmart design technologists help shape the next generation of experiences that effect millions of shoppers. In this role, you will deliver competitive customer-centric solutions through a rich and collaborative design process that will translate design research, strategy, and interactions into high-fidelity prototypes.

Responsibilities
  • Analyze multiple data points to design and develop complex prototypes that meet both business and user needs
  • Influence the design of next-generation UX concepts and structures (i.e. reusable navigation schemes, components, and templates) across our products.
  • Contribute new and improved designs, guidelines, and patterns across multiple platforms and modalities.
  • Proactively research emerging technologies and identify sources of knowledge that impact design success and address our product’s future.
  • Ensure a consistent, appealing, and dynamic customer experience.
  • Confidently articulate design feasibility within existing systems and innovation paths.
Qualifications
  • Relevant degree (HCI, computer science, design, cognitive science) and/or equivalent experience.
  • Strong experience in UI development with HTML/CSS/JavaScript, Xcode /Swift, Android/Java/Kotlin, progressive web apps, and/or advanced prototyping tools.
  • Experience with modern UI standards (accessibility, responsive design, grids, animation, performance).
  • Multiple strengths for creating interactive and experientially rich and effective prototypes and experiences.
  • Natural curiosity for new technology and able to discern the complex problems that arise from its implementation.
  • Thorough knowledge of prototyping strategies, measurements, and tools, and ability to implement them thoughtfully.
  • Effective collaborator in a team environment with cross-functional partners including designers, engineers, product managers, researchers, and content strategists.
  • Strong communication, presentation, interpersonal and analytical skills; the ability To translate complex concepts to clear communication across different audiences and varying levels of the organization.
  • Deep understanding of the design process including awareness of research methodologies.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a large organization.
