Job summary

Job description

Assist in the preparation and service of food in a manner that will ensure nutritious meals and snacks, served at appropriate times, while safeguarding the health of students, staff, and visitors.

Education and/or Experience
  • A graduate from high school or a general education degree is required.
Language Skills and Abilities
  • Present information and respond clearly and understandably to questions from supervisor, staff, students, and the public.
  • Read and interpret procedures, policies, and regulations, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Reasoning Ability
  • Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of non-standard situations.
  • Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Current Alaska Driver's License
Preferred Skills and Abilities
  • Iñupiaq speaking, language & culture experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Participate in the production and service of palatable school meals.
  • Participate in storage, clean up, and safety tasks.
  • Operate the food service vehicles to deliver food and staff to and from the school sites.
  • Expedite incoming and outgoing food to locations as required.
  • Process incoming freight and check necessary paperwork.
  • Lift and stock freight in appropriate storage areas. Keep all storage areas neat and clean.
  • Operate a pallet jack for positioning pallets of food.
  • Lift 70 pounds.
  • Perform such other tasks and assume other responsibilities as the supervisor may assign.
  • Adhere to all District policies and regulations.

  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
