Job summary

The Hughes Center, part of Universal Health Services, seeks a skilled Utilization Review Coordinator to facilitate resident-centered treatment and coordinate communication among referral sources, physician teams, and payors. This role ensures timely transitions through residential care with a focus on efficient utilization review processes.

Responsibilities include maintaining authorization records, coordinating admission through discharge, and supporting third‑party reviews and appeals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred in social work, counseling, or nursing.
• At least 3 years of direct clinical experience in a psychiatric or mental health setting.
• Experience in patient assessment, family motivation, treatment planning, and external review communications.
• Basic understanding of medical terminology, residential treatment, and psychiatric disorders.
• Ability to gather, analyze data and communicate clearly with families, payors, therapists and physicians.
• Demonstrates initiative, tact and sound judgement; understands treatment priorities and resource balance.
• Basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Facilitates communication regarding resident treatment between referral sources and payors.
• Keeps accurate records of authorizations for residents in treatment.
• Ensures coordinated care through admission, stays, and discharge requirements.
• Maintains positive relationships with internal and external customers.
• May travel to residents' communities for meetings or court hearings.
• Ensures continued availability of financial resources during stay.
• Reviews concerns with departments to resolve issues for customers and facility.
• Reviews clinical data with third-party reviewers to justify level of care needs.
• Coordinates and communicates third-party review decisions to staff.
• Assists in preparing Utilization Review Reports as needed.
• Coordinates retrospective appeals to third-party payers.
• Meets weekly with Administrator on relevant issues.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
