Job summary

Southern California Edison (SCE) is seeking an on-site Utilityman to support maintenance and custodial tasks across multiple powerhouses and facilities. You will help keep operations safe and efficient by assisting electricians, mechanics, and other crews, while transporting parts and reporting abnormal conditions.

This role emphasizes physical, hands-on work in industrial environments, with a focus on safety and adherence to procedures. A valid driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • General custodial work experience in hands-on, physical, or industrial environments.
  • Valid Class C driver’s license and ability to operate a company vehicle.

Responsibilities

  • Perform minor maintenance and custodial tasks in powerhouses and related facilities, including cleaning and organizing work areas.
  • Maintain structures and grounds and handle general housekeeping for assigned facilities.
  • Transport parts, materials, and supplies between powerhouses, warehouses, and work locations.
  • Assist electricians, mechanics, operators, and other crews as needed.
  • Provide logistical support, including meal shuttling during extended or outage work when required.
  • Observe equipment and facilities and report abnormal conditions to the appropriate personnel.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions and comply with safety and operational requirements.

In this job, you’ll serve in a key support position providing hands‑on assistance across multiple crafts while maintaining facilities and equipment. You will work across multiple powerhouses and facilities within an assigned Area of Responsibility (AOR) and play a critical role in keeping operations running safely and efficiently. Key Responsibilities
  • Perform minor maintenance and custodial duties within powerhouses and related facilities, including cleaning, organizing work areas, and trash removal
  • Maintain structures and grounds, including general housekeeping and upkeep of assigned facilities
  • Transport parts, materials, and supplies between powerhouses, warehouses, and work locations
  • Support electricians, mechanics, operators, and other crews by providing general assistance as needed
  • Provide logistical support, including occasional meal shuttling during extended or outage work
  • Observe equipment and facilities and report abnormal conditions to appropriate personnel
  • Follow written and verbal instructions and comply with safety and operational requirements
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • General custodial work experience in hands‑on, physical, or industrial environments
  • Valid Class C driver’s license and ability to operate a company vehicle
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience performing maintenance, custodial, landscaping, or general labor work in industrial, utility, or operational environments
  • Demonstrated curiosity with strong desire to gain exposure to multiple crafts (operations, mechanical, electrical)
  • Ability to follow instructions, work safely in and around operational facilities, and recognize/report any abnormal conditions
Additional Information
  • This position’s work mode is on‑site. The employee will report to an SCE facility or in the field location. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage. The work mode can be changed based on business needs.

  • This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position - Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation. Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training prior to gaining un‑escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties.
  • Relocation does not apply to this position.
  • This position requires testing and applicants who are identified to continue through the selection process will be invited to test via email. Reference our Information Guides for the following tests: (EEI TECH (Test #5105)). Candidates who have previously passed these assessment(s), in some cases, may not need to retest again for this position.
