Job description

PROMOTIONAL ONLY LIMITED TO CURRENT, PERMANENT CIVIL SERVICE EMPLOYEES WITH THE CITY OF KENNER.

Position Details

40 HOURS PER WEEK

Heavy and light physical work in activities such as cutting grass, weeds, trees, and brush; cleaning culverts, drains, and ditches; moving, loading, and unloading materials, supplies, and equipment; assisting in the repair and construction of roadways, walkways, utility installations, etc. Work is generally performed outdoors under varied weather conditions. Some positions may require driving a Parish vehicle; therefore, possession of a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record will be preferred. Reports to the assigned Foreman/Superintendent or a comparable supervisor.

Promotion Details

The II level recognizes satisfactory completion of an employee’s initial probation at the Utility Worker I level.

Essential Job Functions

Duties vary depending on the specific department and position requirements. Examples include:

• Performing maintenance and construction tasks in areas such as streets, drainage, parkways, recreation maintenance, and building/grounds maintenance.
• Preparing and processing records and reports such as supply lists, leave requests, and call reports.
• Operating equipment and machinery and driving various vehicles as required by department.
• Using a variety of tools and interacting with coworkers, supervisors, and the public.
• Performing other related duties as required.
