Job summary

Veolia North America is seeking a Utility Worker to perform routine cleaning, maintenance and repairs to tanks, drains, and related structures at our facilities in North America. You will follow safety rules, log tasks in CMMS, and support wastewater system operations.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED, basic math and communication skills, and the ability to operate pumps, motors, and other machinery. A valid driver's license and willingness to pass a background check are required.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Maintains, repairs, and operates underground pipes, manholes, and lift stations for wastewater transport.
• Maintains treatment plant and lift station areas, including grounds upkeep.
• Performs line cleaning using high-pressure jet trucks and rodders to prevent blockages.
• Removes roots, grease, grit, and obstructions from mains and laterals.
• Inspects and repairs manholes, cleanouts, and catch basins; repairs pipe joints as needed.
• Excavates to repair or replace damaged sewer mains and related components.
• Assists with repair of sewage lift stations, pumps, and associated electrical/mechanical parts.
• Logs daily tasks in CMMS and reads system maps for accuracy.
• Follows strict safety rules; completes permits when entering manholes and vaults.
• Responds to after-hours callouts and sewer backups, aiding with traffic control when required.

Job Description

Position Purpose:

The Utility Worker is responsible for performing a variety of routine cleaning, maintenance and repair to tanks, drains, culverts, grounds, buildings, and associated structures.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

• Maintains, repairs, and operates the underground pipes, manholes, and lift stations that safely carry wastewater to treatment facilities.
• Maintains treatment plant and lift station areas to include mowing and weed eating.
• Line Cleaning: Flushes and clears sewer mains using high-pressure water jet trucks and mechanical rodders to prevent blockages and sanitary sewer overflows.
• Removes roots, grease, grit, and other obstructions from gravity and force mains.
• Structure Upkeep: Inspects, repairs, and builds manholes, cleanouts, and catch basins.
• Excavates damaged areas to repair or replace broken sewer mains, laterals, and pipe joints.
• Maintains and assists with the repair of sewage lift stations, pumps, and related electrical or mechanical components.
• Logs daily work tasks, updates computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), and reads system maps.
• Follows strict safety rules and completes permits when entering manholes and underground vaults.
• Responds to after-hours callouts, sewer backups, and system failures, sometimes assisting with traffic control at work sites.

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Background:

• High School Diploma/GED is required.
• At least six months experience in a related position and environment preferred.
• Experience with a variety of machinery, vehicles, material handling equipment, hand and power tools preferred.
• Must have a strong electrical background working with pumps and motors.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Must have the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing (operational, process, safety and quality Instructions).
• Ability to perform basic math.
• Must have the ability to quickly learn how to safely operate specialized machinery for care of roads, grounds, galleries, structures and facilities.
• Must demonstrate ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily.
• Must possess a solid understanding of electrical systems and the ability to effectively troubleshoot and resolve issues.

Required Certification/Licenses/Training:

• Must have a valid driver's license with a safe driving record.
• Must be able to pass a drug screen and criminal background check.
