Job summary

Miami Children’s Hospital is seeking a Utility Technician - EVS for full-time daytime shifts. The role transports and handles all waste materials, including solid waste, recycling, and regulated medical waste, and manages beds, cribs, and other equipment as needed and requested by Dispatcher, Lead, or Supervisor.

The position supports infection control by following PPE procedures and maintaining clean work areas.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required or preferred.
• Experience in hospital environment preferred.
• Basic knowledge of computers and ability to learn software applications.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and verbal.
• Ability to input data and create basic reports.
• Ability to react calmly under stressful conditions.
• Ability to relate constructively with clients and peers.
• Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
• Follow written and verbal instructions to solve problems.

Responsibilities

• Transports and handles all waste materials including solid waste, recycling, and regulated medical waste.
• Manage flow of beds, cribs, and other equipment as needed and requested by Dispatcher, Lead, or Supervisor.
• Cleans assigned areas per established procedures.
• Maintain linen, waste, and bed storage areas.
• Attend meetings and training sessions as scheduled.
• Cleans emergency spills and debris.
• Ensure equipment is in good working order.
• Follow proper infection control procedures including PPE usage.

Qualifications

• DOT Hazardous Materials training required within 30 days of hire and every 3 years thereafter

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ensures proper infection control procedures are followed including proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
