Job summary

Aqua America, Inc. is seeking an entry-level field/maintenance worker to support water distribution and wastewater systems. You will perform semi-skilled installation, maintenance and repair of meters, valves, gauges and pumps, and help keep vehicles and equipment in safe working order.

Responsibilities include reading meters, updating work orders, and assisting with various tasks as needed. A valid U.S. driver’s license is required, and a CDL permit must be earned within 90 days of hire.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • No experience required; mechanical/electrical experience preferred.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license is required.
  • A CDL permit must be attained within 90 days of hire.

Essential Duties
  • Performs semi‑skilled installation, maintenance and repair of valves, meters, gauges, pumps, and associated equipment used in water distribution and wastewater collection systems using hand and power tools.
  • Operates and performs routine maintenance of vehicles and equipment, eg trucks, digging, trenching equipment, and other equipment in accordance with company procedures and operating standards.
  • Loads and unloads various equipment, chemicals and supplies at worksites and storage areas.
  • Operates medium construction equipment under the supervision of a qualified operator.
  • Adheres to all safety and security operating policies, procedures, practices and standards to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Performs ground keeping and custodial work as assigned.
  • Resolves routine problems and notifies management of issues outside scope of responsibility.
  • Reads meters as needed.
  • Updates and maintains documentation of work activities, including closing work orders in the system.
  • Assists with other tasks or projects as assigned.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

May be subject to extreme temperatures, noise, wet and/or humid conditions, mechanical, electrical, gas exposure hazards, fumes, dusts, mists, gases and/or poor ventilation atmospheric conditions. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50lbs. Working conditions may include travel to work sites of Essential Utilities and/or other constituents. May be required to be “on‑call” per the site schedule. The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
