Job summary

Martin Marietta is seeking a Utility Person for Midway Quarry, Mascot, TN. The role covers maintenance, equipment operation, and site duties, with a 7AM–4PM schedule and occasional weekend work.

You’ll help with production, shipping, and quality control while maintaining safe, clean work areas. The ideal candidate is safety minded, dependable, and motivated, with a willingness to learn and the ability to operate basic quarry equipment under supervision.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience in building materials industry preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative and routine maintenance on mobile and plant equipment.
• Conduct daily pre/post-shift inspections and document findings.
• Use hand shovel and operate skid steer, loader, and other tools to clear around equipment.
• Operate a water truck to limit airborne dust and maintain work areas.
• Assist in production, loading, shipping, and quality control processes.
• Maintain housekeeping and safe traffic flow across the site.
• Operate plant-specific machinery and scales per site needs.
• Record sales activities and assist with customer interactions as required.
• Provide site-specific training to visitors and ensure guidelines are followed.
• Direct customers to appropriate areas and support co-workers as needed.

This position involves various manual tasks including, but not limited to, the following: shoveling; sweeping; lifting, pushing and pulling various objects and raking. Willingness to learn to operate various equipment, such as a skid steer, backhoe, pavers, rollers, etc.

Martin Marietta is seeking a Utility Person to join our team. The ideal individual will be safety conscious, dependable, and motivated. This individual will be responsible for safely and efficiently performing cross-functional duties in plant maintenance, production, and equipment operation. The utility person is responsible for greasing and lubricating plant equipment, maintaining plant housekeeping, operating equipment, and performing routine maintenance on plant and equipment.

A Typical Day For A(n) Utility Person May Include

• Performing preventative and routine maintenance on mobile and plant equipment, including cutting and welding under the guidance of the plant manager or other designated personnel
• Performing daily pre/post-shift inspections on equipment and maintains maintenance
• Using a hand shovel and operates a skid steer, front end loader, and other tools to clean around plant equipment and to maintain roadways and parking area
• Operating a water truck to limit airborne dust
• Participating in plant operations including production, loading and shipping, and quality control
• Maintaining good housekeeping in areas of responsibility and safe traffic flow throughout the site
• Operating plant-specific mobile equipment such as excavators and haul trucks in a safe manner as needed
• Operating an automated scale and related computer software program to generate customer tickets
• Administering site specific training to visitors and ensures site guidelines are followed
• Directing customers to the appropriate areas of the site
• Maintaining accurate records of aggregate tonnage and sales activities on a daily/weekly/monthly basis and prepares basic reports
• Communicating with other site personnel to ensure proper recording of sales activities and fulfillment of customer needs
• Answering customer calls and communicates pricing, product descriptions, and product availability
• Maintaining professionalism in all situations in the workplace and when working with customers
• Aiding in the training of co-workers as needed
• Performing other duties as assigned by supervisor

You May Be a Good Fit If You

• Possess a High School Diploma, GED or equivalent experience to perform the responsibilities associated with this position
• Have experience in the building materials industry (preferred)
