Job summary

Fujifilm Biotechnologies in Holly Springs, North Carolina, seeks a Utility Operator I for a night shift on a 2/2/3 schedule (6pm–6am). Ideal candidates have a High School Diploma/GED and 1–2 years in utility operations, with preferred CMMS experience.

  • Monitors equipment performance and conducts routine maintenance.
  • Supports energy saving measures and cost reduction efforts.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and responds to equipment failures.
  • Maintains accurate records and assists with regulatory compliance.
  • Assists with 24/7 operations including on-call and weekends.

Position Overview

This is a night shift position supporting our 2/2/3 schedule from 6pm-6am. The Utility Operator 1 operates, maintains, and repairs black and clean utility systems. This role is also responsible for monitoring mechanical and/or electrical equipment, power distribution, chilled water, gas, domestic and de-ionized water, water for injection (WFI), clean steam, boilers, compressed air, fire alarm, security, remote building equipment monitoring, sanitary, acid waste, and storm drain systems.

Job Description
Major Accountabilities
  • Operates and monitors utility systems, including compressed gases, cooling towers, plant steam, chillers, boilers, HVAC, fire alarm system, and utilities tank farm.
  • Monitors equipment performance, conducts routine maintenance, troubleshoots issues, and ensures compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Assists with analyzing data to identify areas of improvement, to implement energy saving measures, and to optimize utility usage to minimize costs and environmental impact.
  • Performs basic preventive maintenance on utility equipment.
  • Assists senior operators with complex preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Responds to equipment failures promptly.
  • Monitors and maintains compressed gas inventory.
  • Responds to emergency conditions, such as power outages, fire alarms, and critical equipment alarms.
  • Assists with operating and monitoring site building management system (BMS) and Delta V.
  • Monitors chemical levels of boiler feed water, cooling tower water, and plant steam.
  • Monitors and assists with operating the site's waste neutralization system.
  • Ensures utility systems and operations comply with relevant regulation standards and guidelines.
  • Maintains accurate records and assists with implementing corrective actions to address non-compliance issues.
  • Assists colleagues with the implementation of process improvements under the direction of senior technician or supervisor.
  • Participates in continuous improvement initiatives to optimize utility operations, cost reductions, and efficiency enhancements.
  • Supports site operations and emergency work orders during off-hours, as needed.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities
  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • Ability to operate equipment and hand tools.
  • Effective communication, both written and oral.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements for pharmaceutical sites.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Must be able to support 24/7 manufacturing facility, including shift, on-call and weekends.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • 1-2 years of experience in Utility Operations or a related field.
Preferred Education and Experience Requirements
  • Associate degree in mechanical, electrical, applied engineering, or industrial technology.
  • Prior utility operations experience in a pharmaceutical manufacturing, or industrial environment.
  • Experience with data tracking software, such as Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).

  • Ability to conduct work that includes moving objects up to 33 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, push or pull, reach to retrieve materials from 18" to 60" in height, and use twisting motions.
  • Will work in warm/cold environments, from a range of 0-115 degree Fahrenheit.
  • Will work in outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind.
  • Will work in small and/or enclosed spaces.
  • Will work in heights greater than 4 feet.
