Job summary

Conditions. Workplace Diversity, LLC. is seeking a skilled mechanic to operate and service utility systems in Cambridge, MA. The ideal candidate will have at least five years of experience and hold a Pipefitter’s license and EPA CFC Technician certification. Qualifications

Job Description

A specifically trained mechanic, skilled in the trade of operating and servicing utility systems (chilled water, steam, and compressed air generation/distribution systems and related equipment/components; water/drainage distribution systems; and other related systems). The role requires maintaining in-depth knowledge of these systems and resolving problems consistently with recognized trade practices, industry standards, codes, jurisdictional authorities, and university guidelines. Work area, tools, and equipment must be maintained in accordance with university standards. The mechanic may work independently or with others under the guidance of an Associate Manager and/or Working Foreman.

Job‑Specific Responsibilities
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of chilled water, steam, and compressed air generation/distribution systems and related equipment/components.
  • Identify and resolve problems with each system in accordance with recognized trade practices, industry standards, codes/jurisdictional authorities, and university guidelines.
  • Maintain work area, tools, and equipment in accordance with university standards.
  • Work independently and/or with others under the guidance of an Associate Manager and/or Working Foreman.
Working Conditions
  • Emergency Status Designation: Critical Operations Personnel (required to provide on‑site support during emergency situations as determined by management).
Physical Requirements
  • Bend, reach, and hold awkward positions for prolonged periods.
  • Lift up to 75 pounds and transport equipment and tools, with others, in excess of 300 pounds.
  • Push and pull heavy loads.
  • Work for extended periods from/in ladders, high places, cramped spaces, confined spaces, and scaffolding.
  • Walk, climb, bend, and stoop substantially.
Basic Qualifications
  • Five (5) years’ experience as a journeyman in the trade.
  • Current Pipefitter’s license and EPA CFC Technician certification required.
  • Completion of a trade or vocational school program required.
  • Experience in the installation, operation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of all utility components and systems (chillers, boilers, piping systems, compressors, cooling towers, pumps, water treatment systems, controls, etc.).
  • Valid Massachusetts driver’s license.
Additional Qualifications and Skills
  • Oil Burner Technician’s, Fireman’s, or Operating Engineer’s License strongly preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and operating/technical manuals.
  • Compliance with all standard safety codes and practices.
  • Complete set of hand tools.
  • Strong independent work ethic and teamwork capability.
  • Quality focused, service oriented, and clear professional communication in English.
  • Operation of state‑of‑the‑art, computer‑based control systems required.
Certificates and Licenses

Standard Hours/Schedule
  • 40 hours per week
  • Sunday: Off
  • Monday: 6:00 am – 2:30 pm
  • Tuesday: 6:00 am – 2:30 pm
  • Wednesday: 6:00 am – 2:30 pm
  • Thursday: 6:00 am – 2:30 pm
  • Friday: 6:00 am – 2:30 pm
  • Saturday: Off
Compensation
  • $55.82 per hour (including shift differential if applicable).
