Job summary

The City of Sanford is seeking a qualified maintenance worker to support the operation, repair and preventive maintenance of pump stations and water treatment equipment. This role focuses on mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems and requires careful observation of safety standards.

You will read blueprints, perform diagnostic tasks, and document work while ensuring safety and compliance with state and local requirements.

Qualifications

  • General knowledge of standard practices, methods, tools and materials in electrical and mechanical trades.
  • Reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, electrical schematics and manuals.
  • Ability to prepare reports and maintain records.
  • Ability to observe and enforce safety precautions.
  • Ability to carry out difficult oral and written instructions; compute rates, ratios and percentages.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance and repair of pump stations and water filtration and reclamation equipment.
  • Maintain mechanical, hydraulic and electrical components of pumps and treatment plants.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams and manuals.
  • Prepare reports and maintain records of maintenance activities.
  • Observe and enforce safety precautions; coordinate with contractors, vendors and the public.

Responsibilities and Qualifications

Detailed individual who possesses general knowledge of standard practices, methods, tools and materials of the electrical and mechanical trades; general knowledge of welding and related mechanical trades operations; general knowledge of the installation, repair and maintenance of the mechanical, hydraulic and electrical components of pump stations and water filtration and water reclamation treatment plant equipment; general knowledge in reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, electrical schematics, and various manuals; general knowledge in preparing reports and maintaining records; general knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions; general knowledge in the use of standard office equipment and associated software; skill in the use and care of the tools of the trade; ability to determine improper operation of pump station and treatment plant equipment, and to take proper remedial action; ability to observe and enforce appropriate safety precautions; ability to carry out difficult oral and written instructions; ability to make arithmetic computations; ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, contractors, vendors and the general public.

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and minimal experience in mechanical maintenance work in a water filtration and/or water reclamation treatment plant, and/or construction environment.

Special Requirements

Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license upon hire. Must meet and maintain all certification, license and training requirements for position.
