Job summary

SSi People seeks a Utility Maintenance Mechanic in Westborough, MA, to keep critical utility plant equipment and building automation systems running reliably for a life sciences facility.

You will perform preventive and corrective maintenance on HVAC, purified water, boilers, chillers, and distribution systems, reading schematics, and supporting audits. On-site role with on-call rotations and lifting duties.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 3–5 years’ hands-on experience maintaining industrial utility systems in pharma/biotech labs.
• Universal EPA 608 certification for refrigerant handling.
• Experience with chillers, boilers, cooling towers, purified water systems, and building automation.
• Ability to read P&IDs, electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and equipment manuals.
• Basic plumbing, pipefitting, welding, electrical troubleshooting, and mechanical repair skills.
• Ability to work flexible hours, participate in on-call rotation, and lift up to 50 pounds.

Job Title: Utility Maintenance Mechanic

Job Summary: We are recruiting for a Utility Maintenance Mechanic opportunity supporting a life sciences research and development facility in Westborough, MA. This role is vital to keeping critical utility systems operating reliably so research environments remain stable, compliant, and supported around the clock.

Responsibilities

• Operate, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot central utility plant equipment, HVAC systems, and building automation systems supporting critical facility operations.
• Perform preventive maintenance on purified water, clean steam, compressed gases, nitrogen generation, CO2, vacuum, and related distribution systems in line with cGMP requirements.
• Respond to utility failures, alarms, and environmental excursions, including after-hours emergency calls, and complete root cause analysis with corrective actions.
• Maintain maintenance logs, work order records, calibration documentation, and equipment histories while supporting qualification, validation, inspections, and audits.

Required

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 3-5 years of hands‑on experience maintaining industrial utility systems in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, laboratory, or healthcare environments.
• Universal EPA 608 certification for refrigerant handling.
• Experience with industrial chillers, steam and hot water boilers, cooling towers, purified water systems, building automation systems, PLCs, and the ability to read P&IDs, electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and equipment manuals.
• Basic plumbing, pipefitting, welding, electrical troubleshooting, and mechanical repair skills, plus the ability to work flexible hours, participate in on‑call rotation, and meet physical requirements including lifting up to 50 pounds, confined space work, and work at heights.
