Job summary

UtiliQuest, LLC is hiring Experienced Utility Locating Technicians in South Carolina. The role requires verifiable locating experience and a valid driver’s license. Training is 100% paid, with a company laptop, phone, and vehicle provided.

You’ll read utility maps, communicate with excavators, operate locating equipment, and document locates. Flexible hours and weekend on-call may be needed; eligible candidates must pass pre-employment drug screening.

Qualifications

• 12 months+ verifiable direct locating experience.
• Authorized to work in the United States.
• High School Diploma or GED preferred; relevant experience acceptable.
• Valid State driver’s license; acceptable MVR.
• Must pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.
• Will undergo random drug testing per policy.
• Proficient with hand tools and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Receive, document and close excavation notices, during day or after hours.
• Read maps/prints to identify underground utilities.
• Communicate with excavators, utility reps, and staff about facilities.
• Operate locating equipment to mark buried utilities accurately.
• Perform light excavation with a shovel when needed.
• Document sketches and notes for completed locates.
• Respond to notices within required timeframes.
• Operate company vehicle safely and maintain appearance.

What You’ll Do

• Use a lap-top computer or other devices to receive, document and close out excavation notices, both during normal hours and after hours.
• Read and interpret utility maps / prints to identify the type and size of underground utilities.
• Use assigned communication equipment to effectively communicate with excavators, utility reps, and company personnel, regarding underground facilities.
• Operate different electronic detection equipment, to locate and mark under-ground facilities within prescribed accuracy limits.
• Perform light excavation with a shovel, to expose buried utilities when necessary.
• Provide accurate documentation and or sketches related to all locates completed.
• Receive and respond to excavation notices during normal and after hours in accordance with established time requirements.
• Operate company vehicles in a safe manner and maintain a professional appearance
• Be able to perform manhole entry using assigned equipment and safety devices
• Perform work in all weather conditions, during normal and after hours.
• Regular use of hands and fingers to operate specialized equipment and tools
• Reaching overhead above the shoulders and horizontally; bending at the waist; standing and or walking for extended periods of time
• Ability to carry 3-5 lb electronic locating equipment for extended periods of time; lifting objects up to 50 pounds or lifting in excess of 50 lbs with tool aids.
• Hearing and speaking to exchange information
• The employee shall follow all safety rules at all times.
• Will need to have the ability to work a flexible schedule (some evenings and weekends) as ticket/production load requires.
• Employee will respond to emergency calls during scheduled on-call shift rotation

What You’ll Need

• You are at least 18 years old
• You have twelve (12) months or greater of verifiable direct locating experience
• You are authorized to work in the United States for this company
• High School Diploma, GED equivalent, relevant work experience, or a combination of education and work experience preferred
• Valid State driver's license (cannot be considered Provisional), including an MVR record that is deemed acceptable by the company.
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
• Upon employment, will be subject to random drug testing in compliance with federal, state and company guidelines.
• Proficient in the use of hand tools and equipment. (shovels, screw drivers, wrenches, and ped keys etc.)
• Ability to carry 3-5 lb electronic locating equipment for extended periods of time; lifting objects up to 50 pounds or lifting in excess of 50 lbs with tool aids.

Physical Abilities & Exposures

• Routinely: work alone in remote locations with arms above shoulder level, operate vehicle, squeeze, fine hand motion, bend, stoop, stand, walk, lift up to 55 pounds, use keyboard and mouse
• Occasionally: use portable ladder, work in confined spaces and climb stairs

The wage range for Utility Locator Experienced is $20.00 - $23.00.
