Job summary

USIC is hiring underground utility locators for daytime, full-time field work across the North Shore and Northwest Suburbs. Start at $21/hour with experienced earners up to $33/hour. You will locate telecoms, electric, gas, water and sewer lines, mark locations, complete tickets, and photograph sites.

We provide training, a company vehicle, equipment, and comprehensive benefits. Applicants must pass a drug screen, have a valid license, and lift up to 75 lbs.

Qualifications

• Able to pass a drug screen (safety-sensitive position).
• Valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.
• Able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Able to lift up to 75 lbs and walk in confined spaces.
• Able to read locate tickets, maps and prints.
• Able to distinguish colors identifying wiring for locates.

Responsibilities

• Correctly locate underground utilities (telecoms, electric, gas, water, sewer).
• Search designated areas, mark locations, complete tickets, and photograph sites.
• These are daytime, full-time positions.
• 48-hour turnaround on many locates; post-holiday/weekend work as needed.
• Work overtime, weekends, and on-call shifts.

Compensation $21.00 Hourly Job Description Hiring throughout the North Shore and Northwest Suburbs! The starting rate ranges from $21.00 per hour for new locators to $33.00 per hour for those with substantial prior locating experience.

No prior locating experience is needed, but experienced locators are encouraged to apply! Our technicians spend their workdays on the go, independently working in the field using their company-provided vehicle.

We use best-in-class ticket and claims management systems to ensure clear and complete mark-out services for the excavator or property owner at the work site.

Your Responsibilities as a Locator:

• Correctly, safely, and efficiently locate underground utilities, including telecommunications, electric power, cable TV, gas, water, and sewer systems.
• Thoroughly search for underground utilities in a designated area, accurately marking the location, completing the necessary documentation, and photographing each locate.
• These are daytime, full-time positions.
• We have a 48-hour turnaround time on many locates, which means we generally work the day after holidays and some weekends, as needed.
• Must be able to work overtime, weekend shifts, and on-call shifts (including nights and weekends), dependent upon the needs of the business.

What We Need from You (Our Requirements):

• Able and willing to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Previous outdoor experience is a plus.
• Proficiency with technology
• Available to work overtime, weekends, and on-call shifts as needed.
• Able to pass a drug screen (this is a safety-sensitive position).
• Valid driver’s license and a safe driving record
• Able to work in a confined space; walk, bend, and lift up to 75 lbs.
• Able to distinguish between colors used to identify wiring and mark underground utilities.
• Able to read, understand, and reference locate tickets, as well as maps and prints.
• Able to communicate clearly with colleagues, customers, contractors, and homeowners.
