This position performs professional and technical civil work in locating city lines as requested by Sunshine One call center in a timely manner. The purpose of the Utility Locator is to protect the city utilities lines from damage or contamination by properly marking them in the field with the appropriate flags and paint. This position requires a variety of skilled and semiskilled manual tasks in the location of utilities. Duties may involve the use of trades tools and the operation of light construction equipment as a part of the assignment. Duties may be performed under adverse weather conditions.

Graduate of an accredited high school or possess an acceptable equivalency diploma and six months of experience in field locating of water, wastewater, and reclaim utility systems or construction field or closely-related experience. Ability to operate a computer and various software programs is required. Experience in design, construction and maintenance of Utility lines is required or any equivalent combination of education, experience and training. The individual must be in good physical condition and have ability to accept and understand directions. Within one year must be CPR / AED qualified.
The applicant must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram forms. The applicant must also be able to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations when immediate guidance from the supervisor may not be available.
This job requires walking, standing, pushing, bending, stooping, equipment operation and driving. The employee will work outside in various weather conditions. Working in or with moving vehicles and/or equipment may be required as well as working from heights, in dusty condition, with hands, feet, and/or legs in wastewater and may handle chemicals.
