Job summary

Tjader & Highstrom Utility Services, LLC is seeking a Utility Locator to mark underground utilities and ensure safe, efficient project execution in field conditions. The role involves locating utilities with detection equipment, reading maps, and documenting each locate.

You will need a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver's license, and the ability to work in all weather. A sign-on benefit is offered and regular field travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Must be 18+ years old and authorized to work in the United States.
• Valid state driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• High School Diploma or GED or relevant work experience.
• Ability to work in all weather conditions and lift up to 55 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Operate detection equipment to locate and mark underground utilities, seeking guidance from experienced Locators as needed.
• Read utility maps to locate underground utilities accurately.
• Document all locates.
• Respond promptly to excavation notices and communicate with excavators and utility representatives.
• Communicate well with company staff.
• Dig lightly with a shovel when necessary.
• Work overtime, travel, and perform on-call/after-hours duties as needed.
• Perform work in all weather conditions.

At Tjader & Highstrom Utility Services, LLC, as a Locator, you’ll mark underground utilities with flags & paint to help ensure projects are safe and efficient.

What you’ll do

We are currently offering a $1,000 sign on bonus if you, as the new employee, stay for 6 months ($500 after 3 months, and another $500 after 6 months)

• Operate detection equipment to locate and mark underground utilities, seeking guidance from experienced Locators as needed
• Read utility maps to find underground utilities correctly
• Document all locates
• Respond promptly and courteously to excavation notices
• Communicate well with excavators, utility representatives, and company staff
• Dig lightly with a shovel when necessary
• Work overtime, travel, and perform on-call/afterhours responsibilities as needed
• Perform work in all weather conditions

What you’ll need

• To be 18 years of age or older
• Authorization to work in the United States for this company
• High School Diploma, GED equivalent, or relevant work experience
• Valid State driver's license (cannot be Provisional), including an acceptable driving record

Physical abilities & exposures

• Routinely: work alone in remote locations with arms above shoulder level, operate vehicle, squeeze, fine hand motion, bend, stoop, stand, walk, lift up to 55 pounds, use keyboard and mouse
• Occasionally: use portable ladder, work in confined spaces and climb stairs
