Job summary

ELM Utility Services in Abilene, Texas is seeking a Utility Locate Technician to accurately mark underground utilities and prevent damage during excavations. You will use the LaunchPoint software system to improve efficiencies and coordinate with utility managers, crews, homeowners, and contractors.

Qualified candidates have a High School Diploma or GED, at least 90 days of gas locating experience, and a valid driver’s license with a clean MVR.

• Valid driver’s license with a good motor vehicle record.

Responsibilities

• Verifying previous marking for high-profile underground gas utilities.
• Completing all necessary paperwork.
• Maintaining daily contact with utility managers, crews, homeowners and contractors, discussing locate issues.
• Receiving daily jobs via computer/device.
• Prioritizing your daily work by going through all locate requests to determine routing.
• Reading and understanding utility-provided maps to assist in identification of underground utilities.
• Ensuring that clients and contractors suffer no damages or injuries due to mis-located utilities.
• Monitoring active excavations near high-profile gas facilities and ensuring safe practices are used.
• Inspecting exposed gas facilities for damage.
• Must be able to work on-call rotation and overtime as needed, including nights and weekends.

Starting wages for this position will be $24.00-$30.00, depending on experience.
