Job summary

Lake Superior Consulting (LSC) is seeking a Utility Locate Lead to join our growing team in the South Metro area (Burnsville, Shakopee, Eagle Lake, Jordan and surrounding areas). This leadership role combines hands-on field locating with mentoring technicians to ensure safe, accurate, and timely completion of locate requests while supporting daily operations.

You’ll read maps, use electronic locating equipment and APWA color standards, coordinate with supervisors, and help train staff.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 2–3 years utility locating experience.
• Leadership or mentoring experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of utility locating methods, equipment, and industry standards.
• Excellent communication, organization, and problem‑solving skills.
• Commitment to working safely and providing high‑quality service.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and terrain conditions.
• Valid Driver’s License and ability to operate a company vehicle.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Availability to travel and participate in on‑call rotations.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support field technicians to complete locate requests safely, accurately, and within required timelines.
• Perform underground utility locates using electronic locating equipment and APWA color standards.
• Read and interpret utility maps and prints to identify underground facilities.
• Assist in training, mentoring, and developing new and existing team members.
• Coordinate with the Utility Supervisor and field staff to manage daily workload and priorities.
• Complete documentation for locates, crossings, and excavation projects accurately and on time.
• Participate in safety meetings, audits, and operational reviews.
• Promote a strong safety and quality culture throughout all field activities.
• Communicate clearly with supervisors, clients, and coworkers to ensure efficient operations.
• Participate in on-call rotations and ensure equipment readiness for field projects.
