Job summary

Ash Grove Cement Company is seeking a Utility Laborer to support plant operations at our Texas facility. You will perform general cleanup, material handling, and assist with refractory work while following safety policies.

Training is provided and teamwork is essential in a fast-paced cement environment. The role requires 18+ and a high school diploma, with opportunity to operate a range of equipment and contribute to plant maintenance and efficiency.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or equivalent and ability to follow safety guidelines.
• Willingness to perform manual labor and operate varied equipment.
• Ability to read and understand safety labels, instructions, and signs.

Responsibilities

• Perform general cleanup and material handling duties.
• Operate and assist with mobile equipment under supervision.
• Assist in removing and installing refractory lining in kiln and related equipment.
• Clean plant and mobile equipment, unclog chutes, dust collectors, and conveyors.
• Perform janitorial and grounds-keeping duties as needed.
• Follow all safety policies and procedures and work under supervision.

What you’ll be contributing:

Under general supervision and according to specified policies and procedures, performs generalclean-up and material handling duties. Complies with all applicable safety policies and regulations.

• Promote and follow all plant safetyguidelines.
• Performs general clean-up duties using a shovel, broom, chipping hammer, jack hammer, concretesaw, walk-behind skidsteer, wheelbarrow, sledge hammer and motorized sweepers, and vacuum truck.
• Assists in removing and installing refractory lining in the kiln, preheat tower, coolers, and otherrelated plant equipment.
• Performs cleaning of plant and mobile equipment including the following but not limited to: unplugging chutes and silo feeders; cleaning the inside of dust collectors and tower cyclones using water and air hoses; and unplugging preheat tower vessels, feed pipes, conveyor drags, augers, belt conveyors and troughing rolls
• Cleans building roofs and removes snow when necessary. Occasionally cleans drain ditches and catch basins. Uses shovels and an air lance to perform these duties.
• Assists in screening grinding balls and recharging mill grinding ball load.
• Performs janitorial and ground keeping duties which include, but are not limited to changing airconditioner filters, mowing, weeding, fertilizing, watering and trimming.
• Performs vacation relief, fills other positions as needed performs other duties as assigned by ShiftSupervisor or Production Manager.
• Operate mobile equipment: Forklift, Dump Truck, Bobcat, front-end loader, haul truck, water truck,sweeper, backhoe, and manlift.
• Continously observes all safety rules and keeps work areas clean.
• Additional duties as assigned by supervisor

To succeed in this position, you will need:

• High school graduation or equivalent is required, must be 18 years of age or older.
• Minimum 2 years of experience working in a related manufacturing organization is preferred
• Ability to read, write and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc. Willingness to learn, training will be provided
• Ability to safely and effectively use and operate a shovel, broom, chipping hammer, walk-behind skidsteer, concrete saw, loader, motorized sweeper, brick saw, water hose, air hose, sledgehammer, air lance and other equipment as assigned while performing job duties.

What to expect in a cement environment:

Work to be performed in a shop environment as well as outdoor exposure throughout the plant. Mild exposure to cement dust, heat, cold, and noise requires compliance with specified safety guidelines and procedures. Exposure to high elevations of up to 250 feet in height. Exposure to all weather conditions. Normal operation of mobile equipment may result in jarring and vibratory exposure. Work involves walking over rough surfaces, climbing 20-foot ladders, climbing stairs, bending,pushing, pulling, working in an awkward position and in confined spaces, and lifting materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
