Ox Specialty Paper, LLC is seeking a Utility (General Laborer) in Carthage, NY. This entry-level, hourly union position offers advancement opportunities within operations. Starting pay is $25.31 per hour, with a 4-crew Southern Swing rotation spanning 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts.

The role supports all mill operations, requires safety focus, and includes comprehensive benefits after introductory periods. Physical work and pre-employment screening are part of the process.

Qualifications

• Must be able to work safely in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to read a tape measure and perform basic math and computer tasks.
• Entry-level position with potential for advancement in operations.
• Industrial manufacturing experience is a plus but not required.

Responsabilités

• Support all mill departments (shipping, receiving, maintenance, and production) as needed.
• Safely operate manufacturing equipment and power hand tools.
• Work safely, lift/push/pull >50 lbs, navigate stairs, stand, walk, bend and kneel.
• Read a tape measure to 1/16" and perform basic math and computer tasks.
• Perform inspections on equipment and report issues.
• Keep areas clean and organized; perform housekeeping tasks.
• Prioritize work to keep the paper machine running smoothly.
• Forklifts, clamp trucks, and skid steers are desirable but not required.
• Roll finishing (banding, labeling, sorting).
• Load trucks with finished product and unload bales from wastepaper trucks.
• Work in varying temperatures as part of a cohesive team.

Ox Specialty Paper, LLC is seeking qualified candidates to fill the Utility (General Laborer) Positions in the Paper Production Department. Target start period is mid-November 2026. This is an entry level, hourly position where advancement in operations is expected. Starting hourly rate is $25.31 / hour.

The mill operates on a 4 crew, Southern Swing Rotation so you will work 1st, 2nd and 3rd shift each month.

• Week 1
  • 3rd shift (10pm - 6am) Off Sunday the work Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday
• Week 2
  • Work Sunday then Off Monday and Tuesday. Work 2nd shift (2pm - 10pm) Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday
• Week 3
  • Work Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday then Off Wednesday and Thursday. Work 1st shift (6am - 2pm) Friday and Saturday
• Week 4
  • Work Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday then Off Friday and Saturday

Weeks swing 3rd to 2nd, 2nd to 1st, then 1st to 3rd

How you will impact Ox Specialty Paper, LLC

• Utility employees support all departments within the mill including shipping, receiving, maintenance, and production, as needed.
• Ability to safely operate various manufacturing equipment, follow specific directions, operate power hand tools, and other duties as assigned.
• Ability to work safely, comply with all safety rules, lift, push or pull >50lbs, navigate stairs, stand, walk, bend, and kneel throughout the entire shift.
• Ability to read a tape measure (to 1/16” measurement) and basic math and computer skills.
• Performs inspections on various equipment for proper operation and report questionable conditions
• Performs various housekeeping, cleaning, and organizing functions with minimal supervision to ensure areas are clean and free from debris
• Prioritizes work and takes appropriate action to ensure paper machine remains operational
• Forklift, clamp truck, and skid steer experience is desired, but not required
• Roll finishing (banding, labeling, sorting)
• Loading trucks with finished product
• Unloading bales from wastepaper truck
• Work in varying temperatures as part of a cohesive team that keeps production running safely and efficiently

What you need to succeed

• High school diploma or GED is not required, but is preferred
• Strong commitment to working safe, good communication skills, a demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Strong desire to learn manufacturing processes, safely operating complex machinery, and have a desire to advance within the company
• Industrial manufacturing experience is preferred but not required

Due to the physical demands of the position, all candidates are required to take and pass a general physical.
