Job description

Utility Financial Analysts at DPS review utility financial statements, become familiar with utilities’ financial forecasts and forecasting models, analyze financing requests, develop familiarity with ratemaking principles, and assist with various aspects of the rate case review process.

Minimum Qualifications

Utility Financial Analyst Trainee candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree or higher including or supplemented by nine semester credit hours in finance and an additional nine semester credit hours in finance, economics, and/or accounting.

In order to be appointed as a Senior Utility Financial Analyst, one must meet the following qualifications, either:

1. A bachelor's degree including or supplemented by nine semester credit hours in finance and an additional nine semester credit hours in finance, economics, and/or accounting AND two years of professional experience that includes: analyzing financial/investment practices, assessing financial condition and cost structure, analyzing new securities issues, assessing financial and business risk, and the measurement of the cost of capital; OR
2. A master’s or higher degree including or supplemented by nine semester credit hours in finance and an additional nine semester credit hours in finance, economics, and/or accounting AND one year of professional experience that includes: analyzing financial/investment practices, assessing financial condition and cost structure, analyzing new securities issues, assessing financial and business risk, and the measurement of the cost of capital.
