Job summary

Jacobs in Bellevue, WA is seeking a Utility Design Lead to drive utility coordination and relocation design for major transportation projects. You will guide multi-discipline teams across the Pacific Northwest, ensure alignment with utility owners and agencies, and deliver complex highway and municipal infrastructure solutions.

You will collaborate with transportation and drainage teams, manage data, and lead meetings to ensure on-time delivery while upholding safety and design standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • 4+ years of experience leading or supporting utility coordination and utility relocation design for public transportation projects.
  • Experience participating in and/or facilitating meetings with utility owners, agencies, consultants, contractors, surveyors, and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Familiarity with design platforms such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, InRoads, and/or OpenRoads Designer.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and deliver high-quality technical work.

  • Maintain and update utility base mapping and design information within project CAD environments.
  • Collaborate closely with transportation, drainage, structural, and roadway design teams to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Support compliance with WSDOT, municipal, and utility owner requirements.
  • Exercise sound engineering judgment and provide recommendations for utility solutions on complex transportation projects.

We’re seeking a Utility Design Lead to join our growing transportation team in Bellevue, Washington. In this role, you'll play a key part in delivering complex highway, roadway, and municipal infrastructure projects while having opportunities to grow into increasing levels of technical and project leadership by supporting utility coordination, relocation planning, and design efforts from project development through delivery.

Working alongside multidisciplinary teams of engineers, planners, surveyors, and project managers, you'll help solve challenging utility conflicts, foster strong relationships with utility owners and stakeholders, and contribute to some of the region's most impactful transportation improvements.

What You'll Do

As a Utility Design Lead, you will

Here's what you'll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • 4+ years of experience leading or supporting utility coordination and utility relocation design for public transportation projects.
  • Experience participating in and/or facilitating meetings with utility owners, agencies, consultants, contractors, surveyors, and multidisciplinary project teams.

Ideally, You'll Also Have
  • Experience delivering transportation or municipal infrastructure projects within Washington State.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Washington or ability to obtain through reciprocity.
  • Familiarity with WSDOT utility requirements, municipal utility policies, and utility permitting processes.
  • Experience coordinating utility relocations on complex highway or roadway improvement projects.

The base salary range for this position is $79,900.00 to $139,800.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
