Job summary

The City of Liberty, MO is seeking a motivated Utilities Worker to join our Utilities team. This position focuses on the construction, maintenance, and repair of city sanitary sewer and water infrastructure, with cross-training for emergencies.

You will work standard hours Monday through Friday, 7:00am–3:30pm, participate in an on-call rotation, and receive paid time off and comprehensive benefits. No residency requirement applies.

Qualifications

  • No experience required, though some experience performing water distribution and/or sewer infrastructure maintenance is desirable.
  • Equivalent to a high school diploma/GED
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, valid Class "A" Commercial Driver's License with air brake and tank endorsement (within 6-12 months of employment).
  • All CDL training will be provided and paid for by the City of Liberty.
  • Required Completion of City provided training and certifications for Temporary Traffic Control/Flagger, Trenching Shoring Competent Person, Permit
  • Required Confined Space Entry (within 1 year of employment).

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining and repairing sewer mains, manholes, and service laterals
  • Operating sewer cleaning and inspection equipment (jetting, rodding, CCTV)
  • Assisting with inflow and infiltration investigations
  • Supporting emergency response to sewer backups or overflows
  • Operating utility trucks, equipment, and hand tools safely and effectively
  • Following established safety procedures and regulatory requirements
  • Working outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Participating in an on-call rotation and responding to after-hours emergencies when assigned
  • Completing documentation, work reports, and asset data entry
  • Perform construction and maintenance activities in assigned Division.
  • Break and repair concrete and asphalt surfaces; excavate and replace concrete, dig ditches, backfill trenches and holes.
  • Pour concrete for construction projects; assist in the repair of curbs, streets, sidewalks and other related areas.
  • Install street barricades and cones prior to the performance of utilities repair activities; direct and control traffic around work sites and streets.
  • Maintain assigned vehicles, tools and equipment needed for maintenance and repair; make minor repairs; report major repairs to supervisor.
  • Maintain records and logs of all work performed and supplies used.
  • Proactively engage and interact with citizens to ensure their customer experience leaves a positive impact.
  • Required participation in the Utilities Department On-Call Standby Rotation.

Job description

The City of Liberty is seeking a motivated and dependable Utilities Worker to join our Utilities team. This position will primarily work in our Collection/Sewer Division, but will be cross-trained in other areas to assist the organization in emergency call-out situations. A typical starting pay rate is $22/hour, for individuals without related work experience.
