Job summary

The City of Delray Beach is seeking an entry level trainee to perform basic cleaning and maintenance tasks across lift stations, water and wastewater distribution systems, and related facilities. Work is performed under close supervision and may require operation of a vehicle and power equipment.

Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma or equivalent, at least two years of heavy manual labor experience, and basic math and communication skills.

  • Two (2) years of experience in heavy manual labor and use of hand and light power tools
  • Ability to communicate verbally clearly and safely

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance on water and wastewater distribution systems, lift stations, and Water Treatment Plant duties.
  • Install and repair water distribution lines, sanitary sewer lines, lift stations, and related facilities.
  • Dig and refill ditches, load dirt and construction materials; perform lawn maintenance and operate light power equipment.

Entry level trainee work involving basic cleaning and maintenance of lift stations, water and wastewater distribution systems; and/or water treatment plant. Work is performed under close supervision.   • Perform routine maintenance on water and wastewater distribution systems, lift stations and/or Water Treatment Plant.
  • Install and repair water distribution, sanitary sewer lines, lift stations, manholes, and all related facilities.
  • Dig and refill ditches, load dirt and construction materials.
  • Perform lawn maintenance activities.
  • Operate light power equipment.
  • High school graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma;
  • Two (2) years of experience in heavy manual labor and the use of hand and light power tools.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS
  • Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record

Knowledge of materials, methods, practices and equipment used in the water and wastewater field. Ability to communicate verbally. Basic Mathematical skills. Physical condition, strength and agility commensurate with the demand of the position, occasionally under adverse weather conditions. Ability to work rotating shifts as applied.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:

Heavy (45 pounds and over) lifting and carrying. Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction). Acceptable hearing (with or without hearing aid). Ability to communicate orally. Climbing, walking and standing. Kneeling, bending, smelling, or stooping. Driving.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

Works outside in various weather conditions, confined spaces, chemicals, electricity, around light power equipment. Slippery surfaces. Below ground level, odor. Climbs ladders and heights (up to 60 feet).
