Job summary

The City of Downey is seeking a Utilities Inspector to perform field support and detailed inspections of water, sewer, and stormwater projects to ensure conformance with plans, laws, and permits. You will prepare daily reports, verify data, and coordinate with contractors and staff.

You should have a high school diploma and coursework in water-related fields; a California Driver’s license may be required. The role offers ongoing wage adjustments and benefits under the Utilities Division.

Qualifications

• Read, analyze, and interpret plans, specs, testing reports and data.
• Inspect water, sewer, and stormwater projects for conformance to standards.
• Prepare daily inspection reports and related documentation.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and inspect water, sanitary sewer, and stormwater construction.
• Inspect installation of pipelines, manholes, and appurtenances.
• Coordinate with contractors, City staff, and the public.
