Based in Utah with a hybrid schedule, you will manage reporters, coordinate with newsroom leadership, and drive audience-focused storytelling that serves the public interest.

Qualifications

• At least three years of editing and/or management experience.
• Proven track record editing watchdog, government, or enterprise journalism.
• Strong understanding of public records laws and investigative reporting techniques.
• Sharp news judgment prioritizing public utility and community impact.
• Experience with audience listening strategies and data visualization/digital storytelling.
• Ability to guide reporters through breaking news and complex stories.
• Commitment to collaborative coaching, ethical independence, and nonprofit journalism.

Responsibilities

• Champion Audience-First Framing: Ensure every pitch answers who it’s for, why it matters now, and how it affects people.
• Lead listening efforts to produce reader-driven stories that answer questions with full reporting transparency.
• Direct watchdog and enterprise reporting by partnering with accountability editors and audience strategists.
• Innovate with alternative and visual formats—video, maps, graphics, interactives.
• Oversee team editorial operations using audience data and news judgment to plan coverage and manage workflows.
• Lead, edit, and develop the team, set priorities, and foster a collaborative, growth-oriented culture.
