Job summary

Shultz Steel Company in California is seeking an Ultrasonic NDT Level II inspector to operate A-scan and C-scan equipment, calibrate and standardize tools, evaluate indications, and report results per acceptance criteria.

You will review work orders, develop scan plans, prepare conformance reports, and perform additional duties including daily production reporting and material handling with cranes and forklifts.

Qualifications

  • Must hold UT Level 2 certification with 1200 hours of documented UT work experience.
  • Experience with Ultrasonic Immersion testing per AMS-STD-2154 and aerospace specs.
  • Secondary experience in Angle Beam testing (contact and immersion).
  • Experience with automated C-scan systems and semi-automated manipulators.

Responsibilities

  • Operate A-Scan and C-Scan equipment and calibrate/standardize per scan plans.
  • Evaluate and interpret ultrasonic indications and report dispositions per criteria.
  • Review Work Orders and customer specs; develop scan plans for approval.
  • Prepare reports, certificates of conformance, and related quality documentation.
  • Compile daily production reports and cross-reference hours to jobs.
  • Move heavy material using cranes and forklifts as required.
  • Follow safety, quality, and company procedures.

Job description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Operation of A-Scan and C-Scan equipment which includes:

  • Calibration and Standardization of equipment in accordance with established Scan Plans.
  • Evaluation and interpretation of ultrasonic indications.
  • Reporting of indications and dispositioning results based on acceptance criteria.
Documentation Duties Include
  • Reviewing Work Orders and Customer specifications and requirements.
  • Developing techniques and Scan Plans for approval.
  • Prepare reports, certificates of conformance, and related quality documentation.
Additional Duties Include
  • Compile daily production reports for all hours worked and cross-referencing those hours to appropriate production jobs.
  • Uses cranes, forklifts and related tools to move heavy material into or out of work area.

Required Skills
  • Current or previous certification as a UT Level 2 with a minimum of 1200 hours of documented work experience in the method. NOTE: UT Thickness certifications will not be considered as this position requires flaw detection and evaluation skills as the individual will be required to immediately perform inspections independently.
  • Primary experience - Ultrasonic Immersion testing using A and C-Scan systems in accordance with AMS-STD-2154 and other Aerospace Prime Specifications.
  • Secondary experience - Angle Beam testing, both contact and immersion.
  • Experience with automated ultrasonic C-scan Systems and semi-automated manipulators and bridges.

  • Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Windows.
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Experience & Education
  • Requires an Associate Degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school or a High School Diploma.
  • At least 80 hours of Formal Training in Ultrasonic Testing meeting the guidelines of ASNT CP-105.
