Job summary

Plasser American Corporation seeks a Field Service Technician to support installation, commissioning, maintenance, calibration, and repair of ultrasonic testing and track geometry systems used in rail inspection. This role requires frequent travel to customer sites worldwide and independent work in demanding field environments.

You will assist with equipment assembly and testing at our New Milford, CT facility, provide customer training, and document service activities for detailed reports.

Qualifications

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology, Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 3+ years of field service experience, preferably with NDT or rail inspection systems.
• Strong understanding of ultrasonic testing principles and/or track geometry systems.
• Ability to read electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and technical manuals.
• Hands-on troubleshooting, proficiency with diagnostics and data acquisition.

Field Service Technician – Ultrasonic Testing Systems

Location: New Milford CT (Extensive Travel Required)

Travel Requirement: Approximately 75% (Domestic & International)

Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Field Service Technician to support the installation, commissioning, maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of advanced ultrasonic testing and track geometry measurement systems used in rail and infrastructure inspection. This position requires frequent travel to customer sites worldwide and the ability to work independently in demanding field environments. The technician will also provide customer support and operator training, while assisting with equipment assembly and testing at our New Milford, Connecticut facility.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, commission, and troubleshoot ultrasonic testing and track geometry measurement systems at customer locations worldwide.
• Perform preventive maintenance, system calibration, and hardware and software upgrades.
• Diagnose and repair electrical, mechanical, and software issues in the field and at the New Milford facility.
• Support field testing operations, including data acquisition and system validation
• Train customers and operators on proper system use and basic maintenance
• Document service activities, findings, and recommendations in detailed reports
• Coordinate with engineering and technical support teams to resolve complex issues
• Ensure compliance with safety standards and company procedures at all times

Required Qualifications

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology, Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• 3+ years of experience in field service, preferably with NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) or rail inspection systems
• Strong understanding of ultrasonic testing principles and/or track geometry systems
• Ability to read electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and technical manuals
• Hands-on troubleshooting skills with electronic and mechanical systems
• Proficiency with computers, software diagnostics, and data acquisition systems
• Valid driver’s license and passport (or ability to obtain one)

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with rail inspection equipment or similar mobile testing platforms
• Knowledge of ultrasonic transducers, phased array systems, or signal processing
• Familiarity with PLCs, sensors, and industrial control systems
• Previous international field service experience

Work Environment & Travel
