Job summary

America’s Heartland Packing in Missouri is seeking a carcass sorting associate to identify abnormalities and separate normal from abnormal carcasses and parts. You will work to ensure food safety and quality while complying with FSIS regulations.

The role includes hands-on sorting, incision and presentation tasks, and adherence to company procedures. Training is provided upon hire, with refresher sessions, and there is opportunity to train others as needed.

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be able to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of food safety and quality.
  • Must be able to complete training: Beef Modernization; Straight knife, steel, hook

Responsibilities

  • Observe, palpate, and incise to identify abnormalities.
  • Perform preparation and presentation tasks.
  • Follow FSIS rules and company procedures.
  • Notify supervisor if disease is suspected.
  • Attend initial and annual refresher training.
  • Willing to train and educate others.

Key Responsibilities
  • Observe, palpate, and incise carcass and carcass parts to determine if abnormalities exist.
  • Perform preparation (e.g., cuts) and presentation activities.
  • Follow FSIS regulations and company procedures (e.g., heads, tongues, viscera, carcass).
  • Notify the proper person if you identify, while conducting sorting activities, an animal or carcass you suspect has a reportable or foreign animal disease.
  • Attend training at hire and annual refresher training as needed.
  • Must be willing to train and educate others.

Minimum Qualifications (Required)
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be able to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Must be able to work in a variety of work temperatures warm, hot, humid, cold, wet or with slippery surfaces at varied heights in and around moving equipment and parts with the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of food safety and quality.
  • Must be able to successfully complete training

Preferred Qualifications
  • Hands-on knowledge, training and/or experience in Basic Microbiology, Basic Chemistry, Sanitation, and HACCP.
  • Knife experience.
  • Quality assurance experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and observational skills.
  • Knowledge of beef anatomy to recognize common parts of the beef carcass, skeleton, and digestive tract.
