What you'll do...Role summary:

As a Principal Software Engineer, you will lead the design and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, driving innovation in cloud-native architectures and AI-enhanced applications. This role requires overseeing the full software development lifecycle around Data Venture AI Platform, ensuring high availability, reliability, and performance across distributed systems. You will provide strategic technical leadership, mentor engineering teams, and collaborate with stakeholders to translate complex business needs into effective technical solutions. Your expertise will support Walmart’s long-term technology vision while fostering continuous improvement and operational excellence across multiple projects and teams.

About the team:

The team tackles complex business and technical challenges within Growth Tech by leveraging advanced AI coding agents throughout planning, design, implementation, testing, and operations. They establish standards for scalable, reliable, and secure production systems, operating at the intersection of software engineering, data, and AI. Delivering valuable insights to suppliers and merchants, the team develops platforms for intelligent automation, including agent orchestration and customer-facing AI solutions. Emphasizing rapid iteration and adaptive systems that learn from usage, the team fosters collaboration and continuous improvement to drive innovation in a dynamic environment.

  • Lead platform engineering efforts by delivering scalable infrastructure, reusable tooling, and advanced AI frameworks aligned with strategic roadmaps.
  • Drive full software development lifecycle across multiple teams, ensuring high availability, fault tolerance, and real-time data processing capabilities.
  • Architect and implement AI-enhanced applications using cloud-native principles and model-driven design to serve millions of users.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship, promoting engineering excellence and standardization across teams.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business needs into actionable technical requirements and measurable success metrics.
  • Maintain architectural documentation and ensure quality, reliability, and continuous improvement of software solutions.

  • Extensive experience in platform engineering leadership, delivering scalable, cloud-native architectures and reusable tooling.
  • Proven expertise in software development lifecycle management, including CI/CD, testing, monitoring, and incident response.
  • Strong proficiency in AI/ML integration and building intelligent software systems using Python and related technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply model-driven design and technical solution architecture for complex distributed systems.
  • Effective mentorship skills with a track record of guiding engineering teams and influencing architectural decisions.

Bentonville, Arkansas US-10735: The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00 - $220,000.00

Bellevue, Washington US-11663: The annual salary range for this position is $132,000.00 - $264,000.00

Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :

Minimum Qualifications

Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Option 2: 7 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
