Job summary

UCHealth Urology Loveland is seeking a Medical Assistant to provide care for urologic patients under the direction of a Registered Nurse or provider. You will assist with minor procedures, document patient histories, and support radiologic and ultrasound examinations.

A Medical Assistant program from an accredited school is required, along with Basic Life Support and at least 1 year of healthcare experience. This is an onsite role with no hybrid option.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Obtain patient history and vital signs; explain procedures and document care.
  • Assist with urologic radiographic and ultrasound examinations and cystoscopies.
  • Perform urinary catheter insertions/removals and basic laboratory duties.
  • Communicate prescription refill requests to physicians and process refills with pharmacy.
  • Transport patients and restock rooms, supplies and equipment.
  • Work under direction of a Registered Nurse or provider in a fast-paced setting.

Minimum Required Education: Completion of a Medical Assistant program through an accredited school or documentation of a medical program that meets the criteria of a medical assistant program such as military prepared corpsman or medic. Trained in urological procedures through vocational or post-hire on-the-job physician training.

Required Licensure/Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider. Relevant certification as determined at position level.

Minimum Experience: 1 year of healthcare related experience.

BLS through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer with card in-hand before start date. BLS or CPR card must be good through sixty days of hire.

Summary

Provides care of urologic patients under the direction of a Registered Nurse or provider and assists with minor procedures.

Responsibilities

Obtains patient history and vital signs. Explains procedures, documents care, and communicates findings with RN and Physician. Assists with urologic radiographic and ultrasound examinations and cystoscopies. Performs UDS studies with Provider is present.

Assists with minor surgical procedures. Performs urinary catheter insertions and removals. Performs laboratory duties. Assists with simple dressing changes.

Communicates prescription refill requests to Physician and calls in refills to pharmacy. Performs delegated clinical tasks with a written provider order. Collects or prepares specimens. Administers medications and injections per practice-specific guidelines.

Sends specimens to testing laboratory. Communicates abnormal results to providers. Cleans and restocks rooms, supplies and equipment. Transports patients.

Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.
