Job summary

UrgentVet is seeking a dedicated Veterinary Technician for our West Des Moines urgent care hospitals. The role involves providing compassionate patient care for dogs and cats in a fast-paced setting, supporting clinicians with procedures, and ensuring accurate record-keeping in a cloud-based EMR.

Ideal candidates bring hands-on animal handling experience, clinical skills such as phlebotomy and lab analysis, and strong client communication.

Qualifications

• Experience handling animals in a hospital setting and ability to restrain patients.
• Competence in drawing blood, placing catheters, running basic lab tests, and accurately calculating drugs.
• Willingness to assist with facility maintenance and educate clients.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care in a fast-paced urgent care setting.
• Assist veterinary clinicians with procedures and triage.
• Lead and support the team to ensure efficient patient flow and client service.

UrgentVet bridges the gap between daytime general practice and emergency/overnight care, offering after-hours care for canine and feline patients without the additional expense of emergency clinic fees. Our hospitals offer care for common urgent cases, including wound management, ear infections, vomiting/diarrhea, and euthanasia. Each of our paperless clinics is specially designed to deliver efficient care and equipped with cloud-based EMR, digital x-ray, and a full suite of IDEXX in-house lab equipment.

Our clinic is seeking a Full-Time or Part-Time Veterinary Technician to help provide outstanding patient care, team leadership, and client service in a fast-paced, state-of-the-art urgent care clinic.

Ideal Candidate

• Demonstrates professionalism, dependability, healthy and positive communication skills, and the ability to multi-task in a hands-on environment
• Energetic people-and-pet person with excellent work ethic and social and organizational skills
• Willing to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays
• Full-time employees may be required to travel for on-site training and onboarding
• Prior customer service experience
• Prior experience working with animals in a hospital setting
• Must be able to lift 40 lbs
• This position requires regular on-site presence as an essential function of the role.
