Job summary

Alameda Health System's Highland Hospital in Oakland, CA is seeking a Full Time Board Certified Physician to join the Highland Urgent Care team.

You will provide professional medical services at AHS hospitals and clinics, may supervise staff, and participate in telehealth and in-person visits, with nurse triage collaboration; strong emphasis on compassionate patient care.

  • Supervise Mid-level Practitioners/Certified Nurse Midwives in assigned area.
  • Practice evidence-based medicine and stay current with standards of care.

  • Collaborate with clinical team to improve quality of care and service delivery.

Highland Hospital, located in Oakland, California, is the largest facility of Alameda Health System which serves a diverse patient population in California’s East Bay Area. We are currently recruiting for a Full Time Board Certified Physician to join our Highland Urgent Care clinical team. We care for clinically and socially complex patients within the Alameda County safety net system. The Urgent Care clinic plays an important role within Alameda Health System (AHS), primarily as an extension of our Primary Care clinics. This position does include consulting with the team Advanced Practice Providers. Additionally, this provider will be the point of escalation for our centralized Call Center nurse triage center. The AHS Call Center triage nurses currently handle incoming symptom triage calls for patients with emergent symptoms. This provider will assist nurse triage in determining what level of care is needed for acute patients who call in. In addition to serving as a consult service for the nurse triage team, the provider may conduct telehealth visits (especially for patients in Southern Alameda County) or in person visits in the Urgent Care clinic and refer to the ER as appropriate. Job Summary

Under direction, provides professional medical services to patients at the Alameda Health System hospitals and clinics. Assists in the administrative and professional direction of a medical specialty service. Provides consultative services in their specialty. Assigned as an administrative and professional assistant to the chief of a specialty service and when specifically assigned, may relieve the chief of service in their absence. May directly supervise Physician I level. Performs related duties as required.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • 1. Cares for patients in a compassionate, culturally competent, and patient centered manner.
  • 2. Participates in the supervision of Mid-level Practitioners/Certified Nurse Midwives in assigned clinical area.
  • 3. Practices evidence based medicine and is up to date with current standards of care.
  • 4. Provides cost effective care; manages time and patient flow well when providing direct care to patients and following up on patient related work.
  • 5. Stays current with patient care responsibilities. (e.g. lab results, medication refills, and radiology reports, relevant to his/her patients).
  • 6. Takes initiative to work well with the clinical team (including Medical Assistants, Clerks, Health Educators, Panel Managers, Nurses and Pharmacy staff, Leaders, etc.to improve quality of care and service delivery).
  • 7. Teaches patients, families and staff; provides counseling services related to promoting good health practices.
Qualifications

Minimum Experience: Completion of an approved residency in an appropriate specialty.

Required Licenses/Certifications: Basic Life Support Certification issued by the American Heart Association or PALS or ACLS; a valid Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Number.

Required Licenses/Certifications: Possession of a current valid license to practice medicine in the state of California, AND Board Certification or be Board Eligible in area of specialty.; Board Certification must be completed within three years of the date of hire. Applicants holding a California Postgraduate Training License may apply, but must possess a valid license to practice medicine in the state of California in order to begin working.

Pay Rate: $145.92 / Hour

The pay range for this position reflects the base pay scale for the role at Alameda Health System. Final compensation will be determined based on several factors, including but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, departmental equity, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and the operational needs of the organization.
