Job summary

Carbon Health in Berkeley, CA is seeking an Urgent Care Medical Assistant to provide hands-on patient care in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities include taking vitals, collecting history, triage, and supporting procedures.

This per diem role offers exposure to our modern EHR, collaboration with clinical teams, and opportunities to perform DOT urine drug screens and related certifications, with potential growth through training and cross-functional support.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Certification from an accredited Medical Assistant program.
• Current BLS certification; willingness to obtain DOT certification.
• 1+ years experience as a Medical Assistant preferred.
• Phlebotomy experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Take vitals, patient history and triage.
• Assist with procedures such as incision and drainage, lacerations and wound care.
• Administer medications via intradermal, intramuscular and subcutaneous routes, perform ear lavages and run EKGs.
• Conduct lab tests such as urinalysis, pregnancy tests, blood glucose, monospot, rapid strep, influenza, rapid HIV tests.
• Manage front desk and receptionist duties as needed.
• Complete training to become DOT-certified for urine drug screens and breath alcohol tests.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Perform patient care by taking vitals, patient history and triaging
• Assist with procedures such as incision and drainage, lacerations and wound care
• Administer medications via intradermal, intramuscular and subcutaneous routes, carry out ear lavages and run EKGs
• Conduct lab testing such as urinalysis, urine pregnancy test, blood glucose testing, monospot, rapid strep and influenza testing, rapid hiv testing
• Manage the front desk and perform receptionist duties as needed
• Complete training and become certified with the Department of Transportation to perform Urine Drug Screens and Breath Alcohol Tests

ABOUT YOU

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Certification from an accredited Medical Assistant program (except in those locations(s) permitted by law for exemption with experience, diploma and/or national certification)
• Current BLS certification, willingness to obtain DOT certification
• 1+ years experience as a Medical Assistant preferred
• Phlebotomy experience preferred
