Job summary

The City of Peoria is seeking a Planner I to support planning and land use by reviewing development plans, site layouts, and architectural designs for compliance with zoning and design guidelines. You will assist residents, business owners, and developers with planning questions and permits, and manage smaller development cases.

Responsibilities include site inspections, preparing reports, researching planning practices, and collaborating with City departments on current and long-range planning

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Public Administration, or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• One year of related experience in land use planning or development of public policy and knowledge of its impact on citizens.
• Working knowledge of planning principles and practices and applicable regulatory practices.
• Excellent communication skills and research methods/techniques.

Responsibilities

• Review development plans, site layouts, and architectural designs to ensure compliance with City standards, zoning regulations, and design guidelines.
• Assist residents, business owners, and developers with planning-related questions and process permits and business licenses.
• Manage smaller development cases and conduct site inspections to verify compliance with approved plans.
