Job summary

City of Houston is seeking an Urban Park Ranger to patrol parks, engage with visitors, and ensure safe, compliant use of park facilities. The role includes responding to inquiries, investigating violations, and supporting event security across various city parks.

Applicants should have a high school diploma or GED and at least one year of related experience, plus required trainings within the first year. Water and park operations experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or GED.
• One year of related law enforcement, emergency response, security, or public events experience.
• Completion of specified training within one year of hire (Urban Park Ranger training, Emergency Care Attendant, health and parking ordinances, self-defense and crime prevention).

Responsibilities

• Monitors trails, picnic areas, pavilions, and similar park areas to promote public safety and proper use of parks.
• Interacts with the public, greets visitors, explains park rules, and handles inquiries and complaints.
• Investigates and resolves designated visitor complaints to provide quality customer assistance.
• Performs inspections of mobile vendors to ensure compliance with health ordinances and park rules.
• Conducts investigations and may issue citations regarding animal violations and illegal trash dumping.
• Completes reports such as accidents, injuries, and violations.
• Provides crowd and parking control at events and delivers safety presentations.
• Uses radio equipment to relay information to dispatch and other agencies.
