Job summary

Urban Outfitters in Philadelphia is seeking a Designer to translate seasonal trends into innovative home product concepts. You will work closely with design leads to execute the creative vision across samples and presentations, while staying connected to the customer through humor and wit.

You will create detailed design briefs, present solutions to Design and Buying Teams, manage a seasonal workload, and collaborate with Buyers to build a cohesive product assortment that pushes the envelope

Qualifications

• Technical knowledge of home hard goods, kitchen and room decor.
• Graphic design applications.
• Knowledge of construction details and manufacturing processes.
• Ability to bring humor to the customer through art layers.
• Create detailed product specifications for vendors.
• Strong computer skills: AI, Photoshop, Illustrator, SolidWorks.
• Excellent communication and collaboration with design, buying and production.
• Respond to business objectives with creative design solutions.
• Manage workload efficiently.
• Research and report on industry trends, color directions, materials.

Responsibilities

Role Summary

• Maintains awareness of trend, shares research and inspiration with team (social media, retail experience, home style, competitive shopping and vintage exploration as it relates to the UO product)
• Brand ambassador and role model of our values
• Demonstrates a close connection to UO customer
• Works with design leads to execute creative vision in sample and presentation form
• Relates to the customer with humor and wit in an elevatied way for home product

Role Responsibilities

• Assist in the creation of innovative and brand appropriate design solutions.
• Complete detailed design briefs for all new product development, both internal and market product.
• Assist Designer with presenting design solutions to the Design and Buying Teams
• Respond to critique and direction with an open mind.
• Manage workload assigned to you by the Designer on a seasonal basis.
• Quickly develop chase product closer to seasonal trends and needs.
• Work closely with the Designer and Buyers to develop a cohesive product assortment that both fulfill business needs, as well as pushing the envelope with new product development.
• Attend follow-up meetings for all products and manage workload accordingly.
• Regular communication between Buyers, Design Coordinator and Production team.
• Research globally and domestically for new materials, processes and fabrications.
• Keep current on Department, UO Brand and companywide initiatives.
• Research and present to Design team new product and trend ideas for each season.

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with partners in Design, Buying and Production teams.
• Strong organization skills, as this job requires multi-tasking on many levels.
