Qualifications

• Certification: Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with K-12 Music endorsement (JQ/JX).
• Experience: At least two years of successful teaching experience (early childhood or elementary preferred).
• Technology: Familiarity with virtual/online learning and ability to incorporate interactive music software or digital tools.
• Leadership: Ability to manage large groups of elementary-age children.
• Communication: Strong communication with students, staff, and families.
• Context: Ability to meet the challenges of an urban school district.

Responsibilities

• Teach general music and rhythmic literacy using the District's course of study.
• Develop engaging lesson plans with singing, dancing, and instrument play for diverse learners.
• Establish positive behavior standards creating a safe, brave space for performance and creativity.
• Evaluate students' growth and prepare progress reports.
• Direct elementary programs, holiday performances, or grade-level assemblies.
• Collaborate with teachers to integrate music with literacy and math.
• Maintain inventory of instruments, sheet music, and materials.
• Participate in district professional development and school events.
• Create vibrant, music-themed displays and bulletin boards.
• Ensure regular and reliable attendance.
