Job summary

YMCA of Central & Northern Westchester is seeking a part-time UPK Teacher Assistant to support the Lead Teacher in the YMCA Universal Pre-Kindergarten program. This role follows the local school calendar, with hours Monday through Friday, 10am–6pm, in Hawthorne, NY.

You will assist with daily classroom activities, support children’s development, maintain safety and licensing standards, and help document attendance and health checks.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education preferred.
• Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education preferred.
• Experience working with children ages 3–5 preferred.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist Lead Teacher with daily preschool activities (academic enrichment, physical activities, arts, crafts, music, story time, lunch, snacks).
• Provide support and lead activities in Lead Teacher’s absence.
• Familiarize with NYS UPK guidelines, YMCA objectives, and OCFS regulations.
• Maintain safe, healthy, engaging classroom environment and appropriate licensing ratios.
• Document attendance, health checks, and other child care records as needed.
