Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Upholstery Shop Technician II to support daily activities within an upholstery shop, including panel preparation, covering installation, assembly, finishing, and detailing of aircraft interior components.
The ideal candidate will have strong hands‑on upholstery experience and be comfortable working with fabric, leather, Tedlar, adhesives, and other materials. Aerospace experience is preferred but not required. Candidates with automotive upholstery, marine/boat upholstery, yacht, luxury motor coach, or other high-end upholstery experience are encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and upholster components using various fabrics and materials.
- Prepare and install coverings including fabric, leather, and Tedlar.
- Apply spray adhesive and perform bonding/covering processes.
- Wrap edges and perform detailed finishing work.
- Perform assembly and disassembly of components.
- Complete upholstery installations and modifications as assigned.
- Interpret engineering drawings, material specifications, and work instructions.
- Ensure finished components meet quality and design requirements.
- Complete work orders and documentation accurately for traceability.
- Assist the Upholstery Lead in meeting production schedules.
- Maintain tools and shop equipment in good working condition.
- Keep the work area clean, organized, and safe.
- Follow all safety, hazardous-material, DOT, FAA, and company procedures.
- Work independently while collaborating with other team members.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 3 years of hands‑on upholstery experience.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Experience working with different fabrics and materials.
- Experience with adhesives and upholstery installation.
- Comfortable with assembly and disassembly.
- Ability to read and follow technical instructions and drawings.
- Good communication, organization, and time‑management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to learn new processes and adapt to changing requirements.
Preferred Backgrounds
Aerospace experience is not required. Strong candidates may come from:
- Automotive upholstery/interiors
- Marine or boat upholstery
- Luxury motor coach interiors
- Aircraft interiors
- Other high-end upholstery or interior finishing environments
Physical Requirements
- Ability to climb and work on step stools/ladders.
- Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs. independently and occasionally up to 75 lbs. with assistance.
- Ability to reach overhead.
- Ability to work while standing, stooping, kneeling, or in cramped areas.
- Full range of motion in both hands.
- Normal or corrected vision required for detailed work.
- Ability to work in a non-dust-free environment.
- Must be able to comply with DOT/FAA Drug and Alcohol Testing Program.
