Job summary

MillerKnoll is hiring an Upholstery Assembler to join our manufacturing team in a fast-paced environment. You will assemble upholstered components into final chairs and products, adhering to customer requirements and lean manufacturing practices to ensure quality and timely delivery.

Responsibilities include following standard work, using hand and power tools, and inspecting finished parts for quality. Team collaboration and adaptability are essential for success in this role.

Qualifications

  • Read and follow assembly instructions and standard work procedures.
  • Basic math skills: counting, addition, subtraction.
  • Use hand tools and small power tools safely and effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Work cooperatively within the team and with other teams to meet goals.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble upholstered furniture components (seats, backs, arms, bases) into completed chairs and products.
  • Follow work instructions and quality standards to ensure safe, on-time production.
  • Use tools and fixtures to secure and align components during assembly.
  • Inspect parts and finished products for fit, finish and proper operation.
  • Identify and communicate quality or assembly issues to leaders or supervisors.
  • Support continuous improvement and assist in other production areas as needed.

GENERAL PURPOSE

This role is responsible for assembling upholstered furniture components, such as seats, backs, arms, bases, and related parts, into completed products in a manufacturing environment. The Upholstery Assembler works at a standard rate of production while following customer requirements, quality standards, and lean manufacturing principles to ensure high-quality products are delivered safely and on time.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The position follows standard work methods and practices safe work habits to ensure production is as efficient and safe as possible.

Cross-training in other departments to learn additional functions is required.

Assemble upholstered furniture components, including seats, backs, arms, bases, and hardware, into completed chairs and other products according to established work instructions and quality standards.

Use hand tools, power tools, fixtures, and other equipment as required to secure and align components during the assembly process.

Inspect upholstered parts and completed products for quality, fit, finish, and proper operation before moving them to the next stage of production.

Maintain production standards while ensuring accuracy, workmanship, and attention to detail.

Identify and communicate quality, material, or assembly issues to team leaders or supervisors.

Work cooperatively with team members to resolve problems and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Perform multiple assembly processes within the department and assist in other production areas as needed.

Performs additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives.

Education/Experience
  • (1) High school diploma or its equivalent (GED for example),
  • (2) work experience which demonstrates performance competency.
Skills and Abilities

Ability to read and follow assembly instructions and standard work procedures.

Competent in basic math skills such as counting, adding, and subtracting.

Ability to use hand tools and small power tools safely and effectively.

Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.

Ability to work cooperatively within the team as well as with members of other teams to meet goals.

Demonstrated willingness to adapt to a continually changing environment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Ability to regularly lift and move up to 10 lbs., frequently lift and move up to 25 lbs., and occasionally lift and move up to 40 lbs.

Required to stand, walk, bend, reach, grasp, and use hands for handling tools and product components for the duration of the shift.

Ability to position, lift, rotate, and maneuver furniture components during the assembly process.

Ability to perform repetitive motions and maintain productivity standards throughout the workday.
