Responsibilities

  • Perform basic mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance on City vehicles and equipment
  • Replace, repair, and overhaul fuel systems on City assets
  • Maintain City fuel sites, repair fuel pumps, and keep fuel reports
  • Assist with vehicle up-fitting and auction duties
  • Diagnose and repair cooling, heating, and air-conditioning systems
  • Receive fuel deliveries and manage inventories
  • On-call support for fuel issues during nights, weekends and holidays
  • Installation and removal of equipment and decals
  • Evaluate vehicles and equipment designated for auction
  • Perform related duties as required

Job description

Perform basic mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance services. Replace, repair, and over haul fuel systems on the City’s vehicles and equipment. Maintain City owned fuel sites; perform fuel pump repairs, keep daily, weekly, and monthly fuel reports. Assist with vehicle up-fitting and auction duties.

  • Repair automobiles, trucks, heavy and specialized equipment requiring minor adjustments to ensure proper levels of performance;
  • Perform a variety of repairs on chassis and suspensionsystems
  • Diagnose and repair cooling, heating, and air conditioningsystems;
  • Install, repair, replace, and overhaul fuel systems on City assets;
  • Receive fuel deliveries, monitor fuel inventories, and dispense fuel when necessary;
  • Diagnose and repair fuel pumps at the City’s fuel sites;
  • Troubleshooting issues that arise with vehicles unable to get fuel;
  • Respond to any fuel site issues that may occur during the workday as well as on call for fuel issues during nights, weekends, and holidays;
  • Perform some vehicle up-fitting services as needed;
  • Installation and removal of equipment and decals;
  • Evaluate vehicles, equipment and other items designated for auction;
  • Assist with removal of auction items;
  • Perform related duties as required;

Completion of ahigh school diplomaor the equivalent with an additional two years of experience in automotive mechanics; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following:

Valid Driver's License

Additional Qulifications
  • Must have the ability to obtain a Class-B CDL License within six months.
  • Must have the ability to obtain a UST A/B operator certification.
  • Must be able to obtain an Airport Security Identification Badge.
Knowledge of:
  • Methods, techniques ,and tools used in automotiverepair.
  • Hand tools.
  • Fuel pump repair.
  • Recordkeeping
  • Operation of business computers and related business applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, Fuel Management software, and Fleet Management software.
Ability to:
  • Meet the certification and competency standards established for theposition.
  • Communicate effectively with others.
  • Perform in-depth diagnostics on vehicles.
  • Operate a variety of automotive diagnosticequipment.
  • Use troubleshooting skills.
Physical Requirements:
  • Frequently lift and carry up to 20 pounds.
  • Occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequently sit, stand, walk during the shift.
  • Frequently climb stairs and inclined surfaces.
  • Frequently bend and kneel during the shift.
  • Continuously flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially at the knees.
  • Occasionally move body in a crawling motion under vehicles for repairs.
  • Coordinate eye, hand, and foot movement in order to operate a vehicle.
