Job summary

Gardner-Webb University is seeking a University Counselor to provide individual, couples, and group counseling services to students and to participate in the on-call rotation. The counselor reports to the Director of Counseling Services and collaborates with health providers and referral agencies.

Minimum requirements include a Master's degree in a related field and NC licensure or eligibility. Prior college experience is preferred; the role supports NCAA mental health screening and ongoing

Qualifications

• Experience working with Traditional Undergraduate, Degree Completion Program, Graduate, and PA students preferred.
• Strong collaboration and crisis intervention skills.

Responsibilities

University Counselor

The Gardner-Webb University Counselor will be responsible for providing individual, couples, and group counseling services to University students. The Counselor is responsible for participating in the counselor on-call rotation. The Counselor reports to the Director of Counseling Services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Works under the direct supervision of the Director of Counseling Services;
• Provides individual, couples, and group counseling to Traditional Undergraduate, Degree Completion Program, Graduate, and Physician Assistant students;
• Determines appropriate treatments to address symptoms and helps clients plan and prepare for crisis intervention;
• Collaborates with other mental health care providers, physicians, and referral agencies to understand client issues and report progress;
• Plans and provides programs/seminars on special topics. Plans and implements educational and therapeutic workshops and presentations;
• Provides training for Resident Advisors;
• Serves in counselor on-call rotation;
• Works with Athletic Training Department to maintain annual NCAA mental health screening requirements;
• Attends continuing education classes in order to maintain state licensure;
• Performs other duties as directed;

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Master's degree in a related area, two to five years of related experience and/or training in a college or university setting, or equivalent combination of education and experience. If board eligible and currently enrolled in the last semester of a graduate program, must still be under direct university and site supervision and apply for licensure immediately upon degree completion.

Experience working in a college setting is preferred.

Must possess certification and licensure for counseling in North Carolina (NC LCMHC/LCMHCA) or be eligible for licensure and/or certification.
