Job summary

Salem Five is seeking a Universal Banker to join our growing regional financial services team. You will identify sales opportunities, deepen customer relationships, and cross-sell banking products across our branches.

You will deliver an exceptional customer experience, develop product knowledge, and support both sales and teller operations to serve customers efficiently. This role emphasizes teamwork, adherence to policies, and community-focused banking.

Qualifications

• High school diploma, or equivalent required.
• Two years’ experience in a retail or banking environment preferred; supervisory experience is a plus.
• Salem Five requires Universal Bankers to be federally registered through the National Mortgage Licensing System and maintain good standing.
• Individual NMLS IDs renew annually.

Responsibilities

• Identify sales opportunities, deepen existing relationships, and grow Salem Five’s market share in the communities it serves.
• In collaboration with branch management and internal partners, uncover needs and refer cross-sell opportunities (business loans, merchant services, insurance, investments).
• Engage in defined sales activities including uncovering customer needs, offering solutions, closing business, onboarding, follow-up, outbound calls, and recording contacts in the Bank’s system of record.
• Participate in team meetings, contribute to branch sales goals, support divisional campaigns, and celebrate team successes.
• Deliver an exceptional customer experience by making a personal connection, uncovering financial needs, recommending appropriate products, and providing tailored financial solutions.
• Learn and adhere to branch operations policies, perform both sales and teller functions, and build strong relationships with customers and colleagues.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Business Development

Business Acumen and Technical Knowledge

• Have a good understanding of the business of banking to include income and expense streams and portfolio of products and services.
• Able to quickly learn all functionalities and related benefits inherent in the products and services offered by the Bank.
• Demonstrate the ability to build relationships and alliances with customers and colleagues.
• Able to demonstrate a high level of proficiency with Salem Five’s digital technology offerings.
• Proficient with mobile smart phones and downloading applications. This includes the basics of texting, email and application management.
• Proficient with desktop applications such as MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Proficient using the Internet (mobile and desktop) to search for and locate information.
• Eager to embrace new and emerging technologies.

Banking Operations

• Able to quickly learn and adhere to all policies and procedure related to branch operations to include, but not be limited to, check cashing, deposit taking, settlement, account opening, debit card issuance, branch opening and closing, audit requirements, compliance requirements, vault and ATM management, and other such functions.
• As all Salem Five retail positions are required to have ’universal’ branch banking skills, must have / develop a full working knowledge of both the traditional ’sales’ and ’teller’ functions and routinely perform both.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma, or equivalent required. Two years’ experience in a retail or banking environment required, supervisory experience preferred. This position is eligible to be a ‘key-holder’ and when designated as such, is entrusted as a member of the branch’s management team, opening/closing the branch as schedules dictate. In the absence of a Manager and/or Assistant Manager, serves as the ‘manager on duty.’ In a management capacity, uses sound judgement and makes policy decisions as necessary. Participates in the interview, hiring, and development of junior branch staff positions and serves as a trainer and coach for same. Proven success in delivering a superior experience in a customer-centric environment.

Salem Five requires each Universal Banker to be federally registered through the National Mortgage Licensing System and individual records to be in good standing.

Individual NMLS IDs renew annually.

Salary Range

$45,000 - $60,000 plus incentives

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, and performance. This range may be modified in the future.
