Universal Banker I

Branch Manager/Assistant Branch Manager

Summary

Responsible for a broad range of teller transaction processing, referring bank products and services while providing friendly customer service and playing a vital role in delivering an exceptional customer experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Customer Service

  • Ability to interact with the public and deal effectively with their questions or problems.
  • Familiar with the bank’s products and services.
  • Looks for opportunities to explain, promote, and refer products or services.
  • Continuously demonstrates a helpful, friendly attitude and is committed to providing excellent customer service.
  • Serves as a model of excellent customer service to other employees.
  • Identifies and refers retail products suitable to the customer’s needs.
  • Handles customer complaints or questions and determines the best course of action to remedy the situation.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with co‑workers, employees and officials in other departments.

Universal Banker I Functions

  • Receives and handles deposits of all types, ensuring correct endorsement on negotiable instruments.
  • Cashes checks and pays out after verification of signatures and balances, following teller policies.
  • Processes checks, deposits, loan payments, night drop bags, mail deposits, and savings bonds; provides access to safety deposit boxes.
  • Enters customer transactions into the computer, issues receipts, and accurately balances the cash drawer at shift end.
  • Removes deposits from, counts, and balances cash in the automated teller system and night drop bags.
  • Assists with daily ATM balancing duties.
  • Demonstrates responsibility and judgment according to check cashing procedures.
  • Orders client checks through Harland Clarke.
  • Issues cashier’s checks and money orders.
  • Completes Currency Transaction Reports (CTRs) and obtains independent verification.
  • Overrides excessive drawer cash in Vertex up to approved limits.
  • Opens and maintains all consumer types of checking and savings accounts.
  • Completes domestic wire forms accurately.

Other duties may be assigned.

Security
  • Maintains proper currency and coin amounts in the drawer per bank limits.
  • Maintains a neat and orderly work area and secures negotiables and confidential records.
  • Understands the role in the event of a robbery and knows proper post‑robbery procedures.
  • Maintains a professional appearance that evokes customer trust.
  • Adheres to all bank policies, procedures, internal controls, and system access restrictions.

Other duties may be assigned.

  • Customer confidentiality: Never reveal customer information outside the bank.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or GED; 1–2 years of prior customer service experience; outgoing, service‑oriented personality; general knowledge of bank operations; excellent communication skills; basic to advanced computer skills.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Pleasant personality with above‑average arithmetic skills.

  • Basic computer operation skills (printer, copier). Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Operates standard office equipment, including coin sorter and currency counter.

  • Applies common sense to carry out written, oral, or diagrammatic instructions.
  • Handles problems involving multiple concrete variables in standardized situations.
