Job Duties And Responsibilities

The Universal Assistant Manager supports the Store Manager in motivating and inspiring the team to achieve store productivity goals. They assist in analyzing week‑to‑date, period‑to‑date, and year‑to‑date sales, and develop action plans to drive top‑line sales. Under general supervision, they manage both perishable and nonperishable departments, ensuring effective inventory management, attractive and profitable merchandise presentation, and high‑quality customer service. They ensure a safe working environment and protect company assets according to required procedures.

  • Fully understands all policies, procedures, standards, specifications, guidelines, and training programs.
  • Supports store and fulfillment center operations to meet sales goals.
  • Builds strong employee and customer relations and promotes a positive store culture.
  • Maintains effective communication with the management team and store employees.
  • Manages perishable and nonperishable departments, including hiring, training, and developing department employees
  • Supervises store employees' performance, provides ongoing performance management, training, and conducts timely formal performance appraisals for direct reports.
  • Provides leadership and motivation within the store, promoting our guiding principles, core values, vision, and strategy.
  • Controls store expenses through proper ordering and care for supplies and equipment.
  • Ensures store appearance, quality, variety, workplace safety, food safety, and sanitation are consistently maintained.
  • Utilizes company tools such as financial reports, average cost inventory systems, scheduling, productivity, ordering, and business information systems.
  • Observes and corrects unsafe conditions that could cause associate or customer accidents.
  • Records and reports employee and customer accidents according to policies and procedures.
  • Ensures all customers feel welcome and receive responsive, friendly, and courteous service at all times.
  • Achieves company objectives in sales, service, quality, facility appearance, sanitation, and cleanliness through employee training and creating a positive, productive work environment.
  • Controls cash and other receipts by adhering to cash handling and reconciliation procedures in accordance with store policies.
  • Steps into various positions as required to maintain excellent customer service and efficient store operations.
  • Prepares all required paperwork, including forms, reports, and schedules in an organized and timely manner.
  • Ensures all equipment is kept clean, safe, and in excellent working condition through personal inspection and preventative maintenance programs.
  • Verifies that products are received in correct unit count and condition, and deliveries are performed in accordance with receiving policies and procedures.
  • Creates and monitors employee schedules based on anticipated business activity, ensuring all positions are staffed as needed and labor cost objectives are met.
  • Administers prompt, fair, and consistent corrective action for any violations of company policies, rules, and procedures.
  • Complies with all federal, state, county, and municipal regulations pertaining to health, safety, and labor requirements for the store, employees, and customers.
  • Conducts store marketing, advertising, and promotional activities and campaigns.
  • Evaluates employee performance, arranges staff training, and develops programs to advance skills.
  • Ensures all employees understand and work towards KPIs and upsell targets.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent degree.
  • At least 2+ years of management experience.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Must be able to lift 25-50 pounds.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Fluency in any Eastern European language and/or Spanish.
  • Ability to interpret, understand, follow instructions, and solve problems
  • Able to work well with others as a team member.
  • Possess math skills and the ability to operate a cash register or POS system.
  • Able to work in a standing position for long periods (up to 10 hours).
  • Able to work 50 to 60 hours per week.
  • Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to stay calm and polite under pressure.
  • Knowledge of food and beverage service, involving at least three years of front-of-the-house operations and/or assistant management experience.
  • Valid forklift certificate or willingness to obtain this certificate within 3 months of employment.
  • ServSafe certificate or willingness to obtain this certificate within 3 months of employment.
