Job description

The Department of Psychiatry at the Medical University of South Carolina seeks a highly organized and experienced Clinical Research Program Manager to oversee operations across a growing portfolio of large-scale clinical trials and multi-site research studies.

Job Duties

• 30% – Clinical Trial Operations and Multisite Coordination: Provide operational oversight across multiple clinical trials and collaborating research sites. Coordinate study startup, maintenance, and closeout activities; oversee multisite communication, data flow, biospecimen logistics, and study timelines; develop and maintain SOPs; identify bottlenecks and implement improvements; monitor study progress and staffing needs.
• 20% – Staff Management and Operational Leadership: Coordinate day‑to‑day activities of research staff; collaborate with investigators, trainees, interns, and collaborators; lead hiring, onboarding, training, and staff development; manage recruitment processes; may assume official supervision responsibilities.
• 15% – Regulatory and Compliance Oversight: Coordinate preparation and submission of study protocols, consent forms, and regulatory applications. Maintain documentation under FDA, IRB, sponsor, and GCP requirements. Support audits, monitoring visits, and DSMB meetings.
• 20% – Financial and Administrative Coordination: Facilitate development, review, and monitoring of study budgets, invoices, subcontracts, and billing; collaborate with grant administration; oversee procurement and study‑related purchasing.
• 5% – Strategic and Analytical Support: Assist with operational reporting, data summaries, recruitment projections, and materials for grant applications and manuscripts.
• 5% – Data and Quality Oversight: Oversee study data tracking and cross‑site coordination; ensure data completeness and protocol adherence; monitor documentation compliance.
• 5% – Study Startup and Research Infrastructure Support: Support study startup activities, including JIT materials, regulatory startup documentation, site activation materials, and necessary infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Preferred: Five years of program experience, experience coordinating multi‑site trials and supervising staff, MPH or other graduate degree.
• Minimum: Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant program experience.

Physical Requirements

Continuous – 6‑8 hours per shift; Frequent – 2‑6 hours per shift; Infrequent – 0‑2 hours per shift. Ability to perform job functions in upright, seated, walking/mobile positions; perform tasks indoors and outdoors; work in confined spaces; use both hands/arms; perform repetitive motions; reach in all directions; handle objects up to 15 lbs.; maintain vision and hearing acuity; work in dusty areas.
