Unit Secretary Health Unit Coordinator Surgical Care Center Part Time Evenings

Join Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital as a Unit Secretary Health Unit Coordinator in the Surgical Care Center, part-time evenings.

Position Details

Schedule: 3pm-11:30pm, Part Time Evenings with every other weekend

Role Overview

The Health Unit Coordinator reflects the mission, vision, and values of NMHC. The role involves performing unit-based reception, clerical, medical record, and patient registration functions. The Coordinator manages unit workflow collaboratively with the charge RN and/or assistant manager, handles emergency situations calmly, and communicates effectively with staff, patients, and families.

Responsibilities
  • Provide friendly, professional demeanor and accurate information to patients and staff.
  • Address questions promptly and assist with directions and service recovery.
  • Coordinate with the healthcare team, manage medical records, and ensure accurate data entry.
  • Participate in continuous improvement and professional development activities.
  • Utilize critical thinking to prioritize tasks and handle stressful situations effectively.
Qualifications
Required:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Basic computer skills
  • Effective communication skills in English
  • Customer service skills
Preferred:
  • One year of experience in a clinical setting
